Anyone ever eaten a MRE?

I'm thinking about buying a bunch of MREs for our emergency kit... they're not cheap but they can't possibly be any less edible than 'risotto' made with canned chicken, canned chicken stock, instant rice and canned mixed vegetables! Last year after the hurricanes I really missed 'real' food...

Most taste like ashes with gravy coating, some not bad. But will keep you alive in emergency true enough.

Don't drikn the cool-aide though.. it's better as metal cleaner when you make it into paste

I have eaten all kinds of MRE's. (my ex was in the marines) Some of them are quite good actually. uhhh chicken ala king comes to mind offhand.

Mix the cocoa mix with the peanut butter, and it's a pretty yummy snack too out of those MRE's.

just a little hint tho... (and this may be TMI for some ppl) they (MRE's) may - uh - clog you up a little.

I have had MREs

if you take the creamer and mix the sugar in there. fold the packet.

burn the packet < packet is is foil lined > be careful.

once it cooks a little bit. its now a cookie.

I'm a picky eater... and when I was in the military, there was quite a few MRE's that I liked. Get the kind with a heater though if you can, they are much better hot then they are cold. But be careful, contray to popular belief, they do expire.

I like MRE's. My dad is a retired tank commander, and whenever hed come back from being in the field hed always bring me and my sister MRE's. I have always liked them.

eewwww... i think they're yucky. There is like a million calories per though. I have heard rumors that the gum is a laxative... you can make them explode, too

isn't that why they include the little tabasco bottle??

They sound GOOD! I wonder how many food additives they have in them? I'm sensitive to msg which is a real pita when it comes to ready-to-eat-food because I can't eat half the stuff they sell in the supermarket!

That'd be because from what I can see they seem to be entirely meat with a starch like pasta or rice and no fibre to speak of! You need vegetables to keep things moving along... Boy did I miss them last year (and so did my colon!)

I'd be surprised if this stuff isn't absolutely loaded to the gills with sodium.

That's the other thing that there's far too much of in packaged food... salt. Shame nobody makes low-salt preserved foods, but salt is a preservative and it's cheap and it gives stuff flavour...
