Can we return K1 Packet 3 before we have every item on the checklist?

I received packet 3 in the mail about a month ago. I'm Canadian and we send a scan of the completed Packet 3 checklist back to them. The instructions say:

 

"To prepare for your interview you must acquire and checkmark the list of applicable documents below. Then sign, date, and return the checklist to the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal."

 

We still have to complete his I-134 and I still have to get the police certificate. So if we were to send the checklist back now (say, today), would it be "lying" since we haven't actually acquired all those items yet?

 

Or maybe I'm overthinking it...

I didn’t, until I had my police reports in hand, only because I was afraid of some

delay.

 

I sent it in when I had the police reports, but was still missing the affidavit, which I was getting that weekend from my fiancé.

The intent for the Canadian Embassy to require the checklist is so that you are prepared for the interview. They don't want you showing up and missing a document then they have to issue a 221g, hold on to your passport, and then finish adjudicating  your case sometime down the road. They want to do it all at once.

 

If it were me I would wait till I have everything. I would be hard pressed to have to explain that I "lied" on the form that everything was complete except for one document that hasn't shown up yet. Just my opinion. Be safe not sorry.

I’m not sure about Canada- but in Haiti we have the checklist and we have to SUBMIT those documents to the embassy prior to interview. If that’s true with your country- you NEED those documents.

in our case, we started preparing the docs even before we receive the P3. we got the information from this website and of course the travel.state.gov website. by the time that we got our MTL#, almost all of our docs were already prepared and with us (biggest hurdle was the NBI cert from the PHIL). when we got the first ready from CEAC website, P3 was sent off to the consulate. boom!
