The difference is 8 years. Hint, the answer to why you would receive one instead of the other and what you do if you get the two-year card is circumstantial. You'll find the answers in the guides.

If you filled in your timeline, it would be easy to tell you which one you would get and why but there's no information given.

Okay - I read another post of yours. You need for file for Adjustment of Status as soon as you possibly can. You must have your green card and be a legal permanent resident before you can file for naturalisation.

Sand,

A 2-year green card indicates LPR status with a condition - the condition being that the person must petition to have the condition removed during the 90 day period preceeding expiration. If the the person does not petition to remove the condition during that 90-day period then both the card and the status expire.

A 10-year green card indicates LPR status, no conditions attached. The person should apply to renew the card prior to expiration, but if they do not only the card will expire the status will not.
