I'm not sure what I'm more confused about - the original post in this thread, or the person who said this is part of American culture...? Um. Alright.

"Find a way to let her know"...?? You aren't informing her about maintenance she should get done on a car - seriously?

SHE should be more concerned about marrying someone who would withhold that kind of information from her, and WANT to continue withholding it into the marriage, than YOU should be concerned over her knowing you were married before. Come on.

PS - they'll very likely require copies of your divorce decree during the immigration process. At the very least, it WILL come up. Either to her directly, or in front of her. I suppose if you haven't taken this all that seriously to begin with, you could just wait and let the CO "let her know" and save yourself the trouble.

Håll ut, y'all.

I'm going to just say when I met my now fiance, I was also still married although separated. I told my fiance from the very start that I was still married and that I was getting a divorce. Also, although I did not feel like I owed my ex anything, I was true to him as well. Even when we had discussed getting a divorce long before I connected with my now fiance. It wasn't the easiest thing when it came to me telling my current fiance about that. I knew I was risking him walking away because the situation may have seemed too complicated for him. I did however decide to be open and true and LET HIM CHOOSE if he wanted to stick with me through that or not. It would have been unfair to make that decision on my own. ALSO, NOT ok to hide anything at all, even if it's trivial things, from the person you plan to share your life with, let alone hide that you've been married before.

I'm not sure why it would come up in detail in the interview. I'm sure they're not going to question the beneficiary on personal details of the petitioner's reasons for divorce. However, it is all over the I-129F... You are to tell them if you were married before and provide proof that you are free to marry! Your concern sounds to me like issues in your new relationship from the get-go. Not ok. Have the talk and have it now!

They asked my husband many questions about my divorce to my ex. Please don't lead people to believe they won't ask, when they can and will.

For the beneficiary but typically not for the petitioner is the decree required at interview.

The petitioners decree is in the i129f already

Consulate check sheet asks that originals be brought to interview for sighting... divorce decree is one of the documents listed on it, in addition to birth, military etc...

there is is no way this poor girls not going to find out... the only reason I can speculate as to why a guy will not tell her is because it ended badly, possibly due to his actions... general dissolve relationships aren’t something people usually hide.

What's the reason to be hiding your previous marriage? Obviously, you can do as you see fit, but I think it's much better to be honest to your wife-to-be. I suppose you want her to be honest with you, too?

going to assume by the way you word language like "i will tell she" that you are the beneficary and a divorce in your country is frowned on

this is the USA and many divorce and remarry   /  it is not a big deal here / people can divorce and remarry

I do say this as i know in my husband's country a divorced woman has little to no chance to remarry but here men and women have that opportunity

so,   don't worry about telling her

Hi Everyone, I am a newbie and please pardon me if I post this to the wrong forum.

So my question is: do I have to tell my fiancee living oversea about my previous marriage? ( it was divorced legally a year ago ) . I plan to petition her to United States to live with me next year 2020 , I was worry if the interview officer will talk about my previous marriage and then my fiancee will be surprise but the fact is I really want to hide my previous marriage. Does anybody know if I can hide my previous marriage to my new wife ?

Thanks for any advice

Jamie,

If you do not tell your fiancee that you divorced ... You have defrauded her.. And robbed her of the ability to make her own decision to continue with the relationship or not... Even if she is oblivious of the fact, you won't go far with USCIS or the US embassy because their Modus operandi is to lay bare everything that is in between you two to make sure the relationship is a genuine one. I would say the fact that you have not told her puts a big question on the legitimacy of your relationship. Its plain evil, you file for K1 let's say the petition was approved and she gets through the US embassy with the visa then what? She gets on a flight leaving everything behind to be with you... Then she finds out during AOS and her green card denied then she has to leave the country because you... Man have a heart!

Speak the truth even if your voice shakes
