So last night we were at our mini-engagement drinks and nibbles thing (I have been toying with the idea of having a "proper" engagement party, but it seems like a colossal waste of cash), which started out at a bar in my neighborhood but migrated over to a friend's apartment after a while. Alex and I were talking with another friend about the election, and about the Democratic field, and sort of more generally about the whole impeachment enquiry/political quagmire. Our friend mentioned that Maria Butina had been released that day from prison and deported back to Russia, which prompted this conversation (which may not be word perfect but is close enough):

A: So, who's your pick for hottest Russian asset -- Tulsi Gabbard or Maria Butina?

S (friend): That's easy --- Gabbard. Butina's got a butterface. She is a redhead though -- I don't mean to objectify redheads like you Layla, but that's kind of hot. But yeah, Gabbard.

A: Have to agree with you. Gabbard looks like she knows what's what, might boss you about a bit, but that military training means she can take a command.

L: You both are disgusting. First, Gabbard isn't a Russian asset. Second, she's a serious politician and you shouldn't objectify her at all. And third, I'm only a little ginger.

And then they both laughed and talked about how they'd classify Gabbard, Butina and Anna Kournikova in a game of F/M/K.

Well, I guess if you're looking to do that sort of thing. I had to remind Alex that he is coming up on a wedding at some point in the nearish future, and that there would be no F or M of anyone else but me. (I did say he could save the K for my ex if he felt like it. :P)

Don't have to be looking for that sort of thing to think someone is bangable but if your mind runs that way I can see how you may come to that conclusion.

True dat!  I happen to think my wife is WAY hotter than Tulsi, but that doesn’t stop me from admiring her from afar.

Well, I don't expect people not to notice attractive people and admire them. But I didn't appreciate having to hear it, even when I knew it was a joke. I mean, this was literally at my engagement party!

Back onto Tulsi, I am considering buying this t-shirt after what she had to say about Hillary the other day:

No, no ring yet. We got back on Monday and he's been distracted at work. Then of course everything is on fire around here, just a small inconvenience. 😕 We've been very lucky not to lose power at home or where I work, but I know it could happen at any time (power loss -- unlikely to have fires here but there have been some in the hills above the city). I have our go bags ready and I had been thinking about just renting a car and driving home, but now LA and the Valley are on fire too. Al says we should just stay in SF because it hasn't been mentioned at all as somewhere likely to lose power/catch on fire, but we'll see. The ring is still looming in my mind as something I have to take care of but right now... fires. :(
