Hi, I am scheduled next week for the interview for our K1 visa and I am getting more and more nervous. I don't have any doubts that they will see our relationship as valid, we were living together for the last 3 months. But our financial situation is very bad, my fiancee is unsuccesfully trying to find job, we don't have any savings and right now we are on food stamps. We got ourselves a sponsor, with income well above guidelines (guidelines are $43,213 and sponsor's income is $72,000) and I am hoping it will be enough. Now today is our first day apart after three months and I realized that I can't imagine being without her if they will say no and I can't even sleep being afraid of it. Should I be afraid or everything will be alright? Thanks for answers (I already feel a little better after writing this :) )

$43,213 is 125 % of the Poverty level for a family of 8. So I am guessing your sponsor has 6 other people including themself to support? Anyway, $72,000 is way beyond the $43,213 requirement for a family of 8. I do not see the concern about financial support? Fill out the right paperwork and you should be alright. The 2007 guidelines are listed here if you need to double check -> 2007 Poverty Guidelines

Yes, sponsor filled out the I-134, got it notorized and submitted bank statement (not perfect bank statement , because it is not on official paper from bank, just printout) and a letter from employer on a letter head. And no, sponsor has family of 3, the rest is us with her kids.

Well... if the sponsor has a family of 3 (including themselves) and you and your fiance will make up another 2.. that makes 5. Your sponsor is responsible now for a family of 5. The chart shows that a family of 5 would require support of $30,163 to be 125% of the poverty line for a family that size. About the documents required. I submitted the exact documents the instructions asked for. The I-134, my employer letter stating the exact information they asked for, my bank statements, also bank statements showing when my accounts opened and what type of accounts they are, and I included a few pay stubs to show exactly how much I get paid and when. I added the last few things as an extra. I hear sometimes they dont even look at the supporting documentation. So having too much is ok, having too little is ok... having too little when they ask for too much might make having too much look good :) hehe I just played with my words.

Update to the "Financial Fears" I had before the interview... I was worried that I had enough supporting documentation... Well... They didnt even ask my fiancee for the documents. They took the I-134 before the interview and said "keep the supporting documents"... 1 question into the interview she was told to pick up her visa the next morning. done. I have a feeling the US government had done their homework already prior to the interview.
