No, but depending on how long you've been in the relationship, visited, etc then it could be a good idea to go. Immigration lawyers will either say to go or not to go depending on cases they've handled before. Sometimes however, they conduct stokes interviews if the sponsor attends and those can be traps even in legitimate cases. I'm going to my wife's interview (whenever that is) to basically to get her and fly back with her since she's never flown before and I'm definitely planning to practice with her in case they want to conduct such an interview.

Supposedly some consulates/embassies really like you to be there, but I didn't go to my fiancee's and it was fine.

If this is for Santo Domingo, they really like for you to be there. My friend was asked at his interview multiple times why his fiance was not there. He explained due to her job she couldnt travel and provided a letter. But he was luckily still approved.

You should definitely be there. I did not attend our interview and we were denied. We just filed again.

 Some embassy 's really don't care if the petitioner is there or not. Others welcome it and then their are others that "require" it without saying. Dominican Republic is one that defiantly requires it but it is not written anywhere. So make plans to be their to ensure things go smoothly.
