Hello everyone!

The USCIS website states that to petition for mother, you submit I-130 with proof of petitioner’s citizenship and also birth certificate with the beneficiary’s name there as mother. (Translated if necessary)

is this everything needed in the package?

can someone who had petitioned for their mother to please share their cover letter as a sample? Would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much yes, and proof that you’re a US citizen.

You just came in 2018

you can not petition for your mom till you are a citizen

you have about 3 more years before you can do this

Thanks!

I came in 2011 and yes green card in 2018. I should have mentioned that I am asking on behalf of my brother who is a US citizen.

Thank you! And at what point does the affidavit of support comes, if any.

Yes cover letter is not mandatory but recommended to make their lives (USCIS) better. I wanted to see one just for the checklist that may include everything

About 8-12 months from now. So you file the I-130. It’ll take USCIS 8-10 months to approve. Then it’ll be transferred to the NVC, where you have to pay some more fees and submit additional documents, one of which is the affidavit of support. The NVC process can take 2-4 months to complete then they will schedule an appointment for the interview at your mom’s local Embassy. After your mom passed the interview and receive an immigrant visa, she can enter the US and will become lawful permanent resident upon entry.
