I believe everyone has the opportunity to go to heaven, yes. I also believe that it is regardless of the name of your faith but rather by your works. A word cannot bind you to condemnation. That is not consistant with the message in the Bible of love and forgiveness.

Those are the lessons I have learned in the Bible.

Everyone has the opportunity to go to heaven but not everyone will make it there. The bible was written by man yes , but under the inspiration of God. The Lord is a God of love yes..that why he sent Jesus Christ for us, but in the end he will also be a judge. The Word clearly states that

Though I am sure God would like to accept all into Heaven, I have always though it is a choice you the person make. Not that I am saying when you die you go "hmm i think i would rather go to hell", but choose throughout your life which is the way you want to go. To get to Heaven the Bible makes it perfectly clear on how to get into Heaven, all you have to do is believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose for our sins. It's your choice where you want to go

That is so right on! Exactly. It is "OUR" choice as a human being where we choose to go. It's our choice where we want to go. Does God want to see all his people in heaven? Of course he does, but if you choose not to go there, who is he to take that away from you. God doesn't send us to hell, we send ourselves if we reject him. It's what we all deserve. He didn't have to come and die for us. He could have just said you all screwed up so bad, and now there's no way out. But he made a way out. It's weather you choose yourself to take him up on his offer or not. I deserve to go to hell just as much as anyone else, we all essentially belong there because of our sin but because God came and saved us so we wouldn't have too, he made it into a choice! He gave all man free choice ...

"You can enter God's kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who "choose" the easy way. But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it." (Matthew 7:13-14)

Under that definintion, no He did not.

Take for example:

A jungle tribe in Africa that has had little or no contact with the outside world and does not know what Christianity even is.........what about them? Are they doomed for hell over something they do not even have a concept of? Does that sound Christian to you?

My God would not abandon them.

If you don't know, you don't know and I can't believe they would go to hell either. I think ignorance counts for something. You could use the same for babies that die. On the other hand, if you are shown the Light and the Way and you choose not to follow, that is not ignorance-that is to defy.

I understand what your saying merc. And do I believe that God abandons those who have never heard of him or have the chance too, no I don't. Why? How can they make the choice when they didn't know there was even a choice to be made. That goes for children too. But I believe that once we hear the good word and know of our Lord, that we have a choice to make. From there on in, once you know or hear the responsibility is on that individual. Also Jesus said he wasn't coming back (2nd coming) until all people have heard the word. As christians it is our job to spread the gospel to all ends of the earth. Why do you think there are missionaries who go out to jungles and tribes like that and try to search them out. So that they can have the choice to make a decision, so they can hear the good new. But I understand your comment fully :) I think it's a normal question, and honest question. I too have many questions

I'm sorry but I STILL don't understand this concept. Who shows the light and the way? Is it God or are they Christians who spread God's word? I'm not ignorant to the tenents of Christianity, but neither have I made any conscious choice to be defiant. I just don't believe.

How do you teach someone faith?

The bible does deal with this. If you have not actually heard about salvation through Jesus, you would not be held accountable to that. You would be judged on the way you lived your life according to the moral law written naturally in our hearts by God.

But something you said earlier has me confused too...that works are the main factor for going to heaven? But the bible says many times, you are not saved through works alone. As a Christian you are called to do good works, but not because it attains salvation, but because God wants us to try to do good for ppl around us. It's a selfless act, not something that alone would save us. If someone has never heard the gospel, then I do feel they would be judged by God on works and how they lived their lives. But once you know something, you are held accountable to make a decision, in my opinion.

Romans 9:31-33 ....31 but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. 32Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone." 33As it is written:

"See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble

and a rock that makes them fall,

and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.".....

Ephesians 2:8-10

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I was annoyed that we had finally started discussing things civilly and then frances felt the urge to leave such a self-righteous post.

And it's ok Dean, I know deep down you actually love me.

one more script I wanted to post regarding works vs. belief (with what Mercury was saying, and my response etc)

From John 6, ppl asking Jesus:

28Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

What if nobody is truly qualified to show you the Light and the Way? Can you claim ignorance? I personally believe God's words are His......who else is qualified to speak for him? Can you really be shown the Light and the Way without God Himself?

The case could be made that we are ALL ignorant in his ways.

Yes, Merc. That is what I keep trying to get at, and no one understand what I'm asking or they don't know how to answer me.
