How can you say that when you believe your own father is going to Hell?

The truth is that I have no love for my father. But my mom is a non-Christian also, so it does pain me to think she may not be saved when she dies. But as I said, God is more important to me than my parents. He's more important to me than my spouse even. And I follow Him.

God should be #1....but do you truly believe our God is such a God that He would not accept all into heaven?

Of course I believe that. He's God, He can do anything He wants.

The question is - do YOU believe everyone is going to heaven? If so, you obviously don't believe the Bible is the true Word of God.

Certainly He can do what He wants.......the Bible is the word of God, but it was written by man.

I believe everyone has the opportunity to go to heaven, yes. I also believe that it is regardless of the name of your faith but rather by your works. A word cannot bind you to condemnation. That is not consistant with the message in the Bible of love and forgiveness.

Those are the lessons I have learned in the Bible.

If someone is bitten by a rabid animal, and I tell them, "If you don't go to the hospital right now and get a rabies vaccination, you will get rabies and die!" am I being arrogant or self-righteous? Am I being narrow-minded because I don't suggest they could try meditation, or herbal tea, or praying to a rock, or whatever else they feel moved to do?

When I tell someone that Jesus is the only way, that has nothing to do with me being "righteous." It has nothing to do with me at all. I am simply telling them what I believe to be the truth based on the words of Jesus. It is motivated by a desire for their salvation, just as telling the person bit by the rabid animal to get a rabies shot is motivated by a desire that they not die. Arrogance is not the issue. Apart from Christ, I'm in the same boat as everyone else; I wouldn't think to present my "righteousness" as an example of why someone should become a Christian, because like everyone else, I don't have any where near enough to get to Heaven. The Gospel is not about me or my lifestyle or my moral superiority, it is solely about what God in Christ did for the salvation of the world. As Martin Luther said on his deathbed, "We're all beggars showing other beggars where to find bread."

Though I am sure God would like to accept all into Heaven, I have always though it is a choice you the person make. Not that I am saying when you die you go "hmm i think i would rather go to hell", but choose throughout your life which is the way you want to go. To get to Heaven the Bible makes it perfectly clear on how to get into Heaven, all you have to do is believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose for our sins. It's your choice where you want to go. Just MO.

something just came to me a few posts back...

what if we're all right?

what if there are several dozens of after lifes? There's the Christian heaven, and the Jewish heaven, and the Islamic paradise, and the Pagan otherworld of many different names, and reincarnation, and and and...? What if when and atheist dies, they just get put in a box in the ground and rot?

what if after we die we just go to whereever it is that in life we believed we would go?

what if all this arguing and debating and typing is just a waste of time and words and it all just doesn't really matter?

what if all of our gods and goddesses are sitting in the break room watching us and snorting their tea out their noses and choking on their cakes because its all just so rediculous and they've been trying to tell us that for milennia but no one will listen?

Except of course the Judeo/Christian God, because he's more of a showoff and likes to talk thru burning bushes and whatnot...

just some meandering thoughts from my wayward brain...

I don't think everyone is going to heaven - I guess Charles Manson won't be going and he'll probably meet Hitler in Hell when he gets there.

But I also don't think any human being on this earth knows the criteria God is using to determine who get in, and I struggle to accept that he is closing the pearly gates for gandhi and mother theresa because they don't subscibe to some narrow interpretation of one passage from a 17th century bible, that was translated into English by a monarch for political reasons.

ONE passage? I take it you haven't read the entire New Testament?

Also, 17th century? Where were you educated in Bible history again? Wow.

I have read the New Testament

I am referring to the phrase in bible about being "born again" that the Campus Crusader for Christ in my college used as justification to decide, as human beings and not God, that I and other Catholics/non-fundamentalists would not be saved.
