For the purpose of this argument, let's say there was a person of another religion that confronted you and said since you do not believe as I do, you are going to hell. What would your response be?

A Muslim for instance.... what does a Christian say when a Muslim says...YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!

I'll just answer for myself...if that happened to me, I wouldn't mind it since I don't agree.

there you go then... they can say it all they want and you won't agree, so they shouldn't bother to try and change your mind... I completely understand and can relate.

So why do some Christians get so outraged when non-Christians say the same thing?

And.....for the purpose of this argument....what if you're wrong? You know.....so much of our religious beliefs are dictated by the place we were born.

What if when you died you found out it was a God of a different name that was the one, but essentially the same one. Would you expect to go to Hell?

I'm not saying you're going to hell because I say so. I don't know what's in anyone's heart. I'm only saying, GOING BY WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS - yes, a non-believer is going to hell. And trust me, I don't take it lightly. Much of my family (my side, not hubby's) are not Christians, so it doesn't make it easy to say that. But I put the Bible and God before anything else and that's what is taught. The Bible (God) is clear about it. He doesn't beat around the bush, that's for sure. But, as I said, only He knows what's in anyone's heart.

For the purpose of this argument, let's say there was a person of another religion that confronted you and said since you do not believe as I do, you are going to hell. What would your response be?

A Muslim for instance.... what does a Christian say when a Muslim says...YOU ARE GOING TO HELL!

Hey, my dad has told me that more than once. He desperately wants me to be Muslim. It used to bother me before I was a Christian and now I couldn't care less. Let him think what he wants.

How can you say that when you believe your own father is going to Hell?

But if a Muslim came up to me and wanted to talk about their beliefs, I might sit down with them and talk about it. There's a difference between just going up to someone and saying "You are going to hell", and wanting to just talk to them. And if they feel they are supposed to talk to people about it, who am I to tell them they shouldn't? Know what I mean? I wouldn't feel offended by their beliefs but would just agree to disagree.

Obviously you believe there is no God, but billions on this planet do believe in God or a God, etc. I don't think you can prove there is no God, just like you say ppl cannot prove that there is a God.

it's actually not up to me to prove something doesn't exist! ;) you have the burden of proof, it's up to the believers that something DOES exist. there is no empirical data to prove a god's existence, santa's or superman's, for that matter, ergo i do not have to prove anything!

you are right that there are billions of people on this planet that do in god (or a god) ... was it just sheer coincidence that you picked the right one?? interestingly enough, you met a man that believed in a certain god, yet was able to push that aside and embrace your god ... therefore proving his 'old' god does not really exist. same goes for women and men that leave christianity and convert to islam.

Well as far as what you are saying, Sujeet did not convert to Christianity because of me. He was the one who sought a Christian to talk to, because he already was on that path before I met him. And I am not sure where you got that assumption, is it just because he is from India? Because ppl in India couldn't just go after Christianity on their own? There are Christians, Muslims, and Hindus in India along with many other religious minorities. Neither of us would convert for the sake of marriage. But if you don't want to believe me, that's ok. :P

of course i believe what you've said regarding your marriage, i have no reason not to. it's unfortunate you feel the need to be cynical.

i did not say that sujeet converted, you incorrectly inferred by making an assumption that the last line of my post referred to your situation. this was not the case. i simply implied that he left one religion for another which is what others do for the sake of marrying.

but the statement still stands, which you cleverly sidestepped ... 'you met a man that believed in a certain god, yet was able to push that aside and embrace your god ... therefore proving his 'old' god does not really exist.'

If I am wrong then yes I would have to deal with whatever consequence there would be, if any(meaning, if I am wrong then what is my consequence according to all the other religions, or if there is no God at all I suffer no conseguence anyway). That's why faith comes into play, everyone has faith that they are right. I can't prove it. But I also have researched different beliefs and religions and still found this one to be what I feel is the truth. (I know you weren't questioning me, since you asked for the sake of debate only :) ) I know however that many others feel the same about what they believe too.

Gimy,

I'm not sure how you say she sidestepped it. She met a man who believed in the same God she does. She's said as much already.

Edit: Ok I think I see what you're saying now. You're referring to the fact that he did convert, even though it was before they met.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, as it did seem you meant our situation. And therefore I did not sidestep the issue as I read it, thinking you meant me and Sujeet which I did address.

Still, your last statement...I am not sure how to respond. That's why there are different religions. That doesn't mean there can't be one that is right. What if someone grew up believing that their tree was a monkey. If one day they meet a real monkey and say "oh, this is a monkey, the monkey is not the tree!!". That doesn't mean there is no monkey at all, just because their definition of a monkey changed. I know, strange analogy.

ahh, ok, we won't see eye to eye on this one and that's ok...but I'd think they'd be infringing on your beliefs if they say they want to share their beliefs and you tell them you don't agree with them and they keep telling you you are wrong.

The bottom-line for me is not the beliefs which offend me, but rather the presumption that I need to change because I'm not good enough the way I am.

Exactly....we have faith but can't prove it the same as all others. It's ok that you believe that one to be the truth.

Me personally.....I believe my life will be looked at on a basis of my actions as will all people. The decision will be God's on who goes where and I leave that decision to Him. I don't tell people they are going to Hell or that the Bible says they are going to Hell. That is a judgement they have to make on their own.

I believe in the teachings and the consquence of personal decisions. I believe the teachings help me to become a better person which is the utlimate goal. I also believe this can be achieved by other means as well and that does not change the value of a human being.

If we believe that all non-Christians are going to hell, then why would our God let people be born in countries where Christianity is not heard of nor practiced? Why set them up to go right to hell? It doesn't sound right to me, nor does it sound consistant with what I have learned from God. That leads me to believe the statement about hell is a statement of man....not of God.

yeah I know what you mean, but ...well with what I believe, I don't think any person is good enough on their own, because of how I believe Jesus came to pay for our sins, something we never could have done for ourselves. So even though I am a Christian I don't think I am better than anyone, and I don't think I am good enough the way I am, but only through Jesus can I be forgiven of my faults and sins. But these are beliefs, which I know you do not agree with. I'm just trying to show why someone may believe that we can't save ourselves, and why we need a savior.

How can you say that when you believe your own father is going to Hell?

The truth is that I have no love for my father. But my mom is a non-Christian also, so it does pain me to think she may not be saved when she dies. But as I said, God is more important to me than my parents. He's more important to me than my spouse even. And I follow Him.

A muslim shouldn't say that. One of the most important things in Islam (or at least it's supposed to be) is "there is no compulsion in religion". A muslim is not supposed to proselytize, and saying something like that is a form of proselytizing. A non-muslim is supposed to convert based on the strength of the Koran and the truth one finds in it.
