I know what you are saying, but still I think it could be gone about a better way. Like encouraging fellow Christians to change, not belittling. In the bible is says to speak correction in love if you have a problem with someone. That applies to everyone, including fellow Christians, even though it can be hard to do at times. Ppl won't respond to hearing harsh things, as seen in this thread.

Hit the nail right on the head. Not sure how being a Christian bashing Christians for bashing non-Christians is going to change anything.

leave it to a christian girl like you to laugh at the tragic ending of a human beings life. :(

Can I just suggest a rephrashing... "leave it to you to laugh at the tragic ending of a human beings life" because I don't think approveme/fourmoreyears/incanada's faith has anything to do with the comments she makes. I would not imagine I'd read something like that from 99% of the rest of the Christians on VJ.

Just my opinion...

Wait, was that an insult? ;)

Obviously you believe there is no God, but billions on this planet do believe in God or a God, etc. I don't think you can prove there is no God, just like you say ppl cannot prove that there is a God.

it's actually not up to me to prove something doesn't exist! ;) you have the burden of proof, it's up to the believers that something DOES exist. there is no empirical data to prove a god's existence, santa's or superman's, for that matter, ergo i do not have to prove anything!

you are right that there are billions of people on this planet that do in god (or a god) ... was it just sheer coincidence that you picked the right one?? interestingly enough, you met a man that believed in a certain god, yet was able to push that aside and embrace your god ... therefore proving his 'old' god does not really exist. same goes for women and men that leave christianity and convert to islam.

Well as far as what you are saying, Sujeet did not convert to Christianity because of me. He was the one who sought a Christian to talk to, because he already was on that path before I met him. And I am not sure where you got that assumption, is it just because he is from India? Because ppl in India couldn't just go after Christianity on their own? There are Christians, Muslims, and Hindus in India along with many other religious minorities. Neither of us would convert for the sake of marriage. But if you don't want to believe me, that's ok. :P

It's a compromised church that's out there too. I think there are more compromised Christians than fire and brimstone Christians. Just my opinion. :)

Speak correction in love.......tough love is a form of love too. The problem is people don't want to hear the truth. My method might not be correct, I can acknowledge that. I don't think you can say is not in love though......my love of God. Differenct perspective, I know.

Why do you think there is a compromised church out there? I would say it is due greatly to the fire and brimstone "Christians" that have turned the religion into something it is not in the public eye, and also due to Christians not acting against this corruption.

I mean seriously......take an average person and ask them what they think when the hear the word Christian. Unfortunately brother miror's post earlier is what you probably would hear. That is sooo sad. There are many people that practice that are not that way, but this is our image in the public now. So you have to ask yourself how did we get that reputation? Too many Christians want to blame it on everyone else instead or saying "well God said that would happen" instead of looking internally and trying to solve the problem.

True...

But it's also compromised Christians who don't act like Christians at all in their every day life, who give it a bad name. Something like it just happened recently here, a guy we knew sold his van to someone and lied about the condition it was in. This guy was not a "fire and brimstone" kind of guy, more of "sunday is God's day, the rest of the week I do whatever I want". So later the person who bought the van sees my dad(he knew him already) and said, "I trusted that guy because he said he was a Christian, but he lied to me and screwed me." That does a lot of bad too, and it wasn't a preachy person who did that. That happens all over the place.

I guess I don't know as many Christians as you then, because I honestly have never met one that was anywhere NEAR what you're speaking of. Don't get me wrong, I know they exist. I'm just saying I personally have never come across one.

However, if someone does ask me about heaven and hell, I have to say what I know - salvation is only through Jesus Christ. And usually when I say that they start in on, "You're trying to tell me that an atheist who has led a perfectly moral life is going to hell??" And, not that I'm HAPPY to do it, but I have to say yes. If that makes me a "bad" Christian then too bad. I'm not going to lie about my faith just to make someone happy.

I see we're still working on catching the "Islamabad" thread, good job!

Out of curiosity why do people constantly refer to God as a 'he'? Wouldn't it be more accurate to describe an omnipotent invisible force an 'it'?

In Islam, according to "The Koran For Dummies", God (Allah) would be called "it", except there is only "he" and "she" in Arabic.

If Hillary Clinton runs for office and loses in '08 - there IS a God!

I'm pretty sure God doesn't concern himself with such things. As I had said earlier, if God did, Katrina wouldn't have hit New Orleans.

I would expect no sympathy if I had done the same as him.

Oh, but isn't it worth a try, incanada? I'll pray for you, I promise I will!

That does a lot of bad too, and it wasn't a preachy person who did that. That happens all over the place.

This guy is just as bad as a fire and brimestone person because he used the Lords name for the purpose of a transaction. They take the name and misuse it. I don't disagree with your comments about compromised Christians.

People will also make mistakes and the followers are not always perfect. That's why they should not preach also. When you preach, you are speaking for the Lord. Unless your life is an example of the Lord's teaching then you should not speak because you are ruining His name.

So you have to look at what enables compromised Christians to exist. Certainly the public backlash against Christians is a factor because it makes it ok not to have pride in what we believe (in the broad socitey sense). The embarassment of being a Christian or admitting it allows people to not take it as seriously as they should. I think that is a factor in the compromised Christian phenominon. But, you must also recognize that people are not perfect and will make mistakes........that's why there is a church. The problem is with people that do not want to learn from those errors and act in a better way. It is even worse then for those people to call themselves Christians and represent the faith.

And that's where you lose me. You can believe what you want, but I believe thinking like that can lead to dangerous places. When you believe someone is going to hell, you place yourself in a superior position. You can then justify pretty much anything you want against them, up to and including their death. You won't jump to that conclusion right away, but over time as you treat that person worse and worse it can lead you there. And by "you" I don't necessarily mean you personally, incanada, I mean "someone with similar beliefs".

On 9/11 the hijackers stabbed at least one person from each flight. They justified this because they believed their mission was God's will, and the people they stabbed were bound for hell anyway. Same belief, different coin.

Fanatical beliefs rooted in any religiion are very dangerous. When you believe you are automatically superior to everyone else who doesn't believe as you, well, I'm glad we have freedom of speech here, cause you'll identify yourself and the rest of us "heathens" and "infidels" will know who to watch out for.

Many Christians are just fine, but some of the prevailing attitude that manifests itself in conversations with non-Christians is a problem. I think I've described my thoughts on that and the effects it has on the practicing Christian and the faith in general.

For the purpose of this argument, let's say there was a person of another religion that confronted you and said since you do not believe as I do, you are going to hell. What would your response be?

I'm not saying you're going to hell because I say so. I don't know what's in anyone's heart. I'm only saying, GOING BY WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS - yes, a non-believer is going to hell. And trust me, I don't take it lightly. Much of my family (my side, not hubby's) are not Christians, so it doesn't make it easy to say that. But I put the Bible and God before anything else and that's what is taught. The Bible (God) is clear about it. He doesn't beat around the bush, that's for sure. But, as I said, only He knows what's in anyone's heart.

Hey, my dad has told me that more than once. He desperately wants me to be Muslim. It used to bother me before I was a Christian and now I couldn't care less. Let him think what he wants.
