A teacher of mine in the first year of high school gave the class that exact task once. Said something I'll never forget - the best representation of God would be to leave the page entirely blank. An unseen force that can only be seen by what it does.

That sounds neat... I wish I had teachers that challenged me like that hehe

Which, again, assumes God cannot communicate Himself to us truly (not comprehensively, of course). Such a God is practically no different than no God at all, and is at best irrelevant to us.

I don't think so - as I said personifying God is entirely natural. You've only got to look at religious art, or depictions of Jesus in most churches. You'll find that almost all of them depict Jesus as a white european man with none of the ethnically jewish features that he would have had coming from that part of the world at that particular period in history.

I'm simply suggesting that there's a bigger picture to this than popular depiction. In any case, if you think a concept of God as an omnipotent alien being (existing outside space-time) is irrelevant, you might just as well ask yourself "is the universe irrelevant?", "is my life irrelevant?".

Yeah Jesus was a redneck.

If Jesus Were A Redneck...

*He'd have brought a fishing pole with him when he walked on water.

* His last words on the cross would have been, "Hey, Paul, I kin see my house from up here."

* He'd be famous for turning water into beer.

* The prayer for the Passover meal would have been, "Good food, good meat, good God, let's eat."

* His front yard would have been littered with broken down mule carts.

* Instead of a grail, King Arthur would been searching for the Holy Beer Mug.

* He would have cured blindness by yelling, "Yer healed" and slapping them on the forehead.

* The disciples would have included Billy Bob, Scooter, and Bubba.

* Sex, drinking, and dancing would clearly have been declared not sinful.

* Instead of a fish, the symbol for Jesus would be a fishing lure.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Sometimes I think people become too fixated on this to the exclusion of this

The unimagined vastness of creation is much deeper and richer than simply what is described in a particular holy people or piece of scripture.

This goes back to the evolution vs. creation debate that someone brought up again. Scientific discoveries including evolution and those in theoretical physics don't remove beyond all doubt the possibility of a creator - just that the universe is based on quantifiable (often) observable physical rules.

Well I do believe in full immersion but I don't believe in the if you don't do it your going to hell part of it. Baptism is a commandment but it is not something you do to earn salvation or a ticket into heaven. Works can't get you into heaven...thats just my belief though. I remember when I got down here. My issue with baptism was that I always felt pressured to do it, so I never did it cuz if I did I knew I was doing it on someone elses behalf. I wanted to do it when I felt ready to make a commitment and stand for what it represents rather than someone tell me I had to do it. I finally did get baptized (immersion) a few weeks ago but it was because "I" decided the time was right for me. My husband used to attend the Church of Christ though and he told me that one time and I was devestated. I think it's sad how people take things out of context. No where in the Bible does it ever state you need to be baptised in order to earn salvation and a way into heaven. It is asked for us but I think it's totally seperate from a salvation stand point. All it really is is a public declaration that you are going to live your life and follow Christ. Die to your ways and live for his.

This is the kind of junk I'm talking about. People turning the word into something it was not intended to be. These institutions should no longer call themselves Christian churches because they have strayed into self rightousness and persecution of others.

Abt church that would say something like that is no Christian church......they are a self serving institution of man.

Scripture was describing the earth as being round loooooooong before any scientist figured it out. There are other facts about the universe/earth in the Bible that were written before scientists "discovered" them. Just more reasons why I believe the Bible to be the Word of God. He's never been wrong.

Actually, it does. It says Repent, Believe, AND be Baptised.
