I agree....people don't hate Christians just because they are Christian. Christians are hated because of how their message is distributed to the public and people outside of their faith. The whole self rightous thing is a barrier to effective communication. It becomes a persecution and accusation instead of a conversation. That's what people hate.

 And I still wouldn't even call it hating Christians...just not appreciating the way SOME of them choose to go about spreading the word. They don't want to hear all my ideas and beliefs I'm sure, so what makes some of them believe I want to hear their ideas and beliefs. :star:

As a Christian.. things I have noticed about Christians:

1. They shoot their own wounded. ie: How could you have done X, you're Christian!

2. They forget easily about being human and noone walks on water

3. eager to point out the dirt in someone elses eye, ignoring the proverbial plank in their own

4. believe that words speak louder than actions

5. believe they have the "one true path to Christ and God"

6. Love labels (I'm Catholic, Methodist, Baptist, etc"

7. What is good for them MUST be what everyone else needs too (ie was a drunkard, got better, now everyone needs to get off the alchohol)

8. loves to make up more laws than are actually in the Bible.

9. Have to have a commission/council to decide every aspect of everything

10. Do a little studying, quote from the book, and suddenly they "know it all"

11. Forgot the repentence means .. wont do it again

12. Hypocritical of others.

oh, and yes.. for other religions too.. replace "Christian" with whatever.. and you will see the pattern repeated there too.. unfortunately.. we humans have a way of being hypocritcal in nature.

Pure religion is this, look after the fatherless, elderly, and the widowed.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

and yes, as Merc states.. we are our own worst enemies... it is not the other religions, homosexuality, whatever... but our own arrogance.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

You are also called to not eat pork, to kill your child - by stoning, with the entire village involved - if he offends you, and to sell your daughter as a prostitute.

Why obey some rules and ignore others?

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Right. That's one of the reasons I left the church. Too many people picking what they liked and running with it, while ignoring everything they didn't like. The hypocrisy was overwhelming and I couldn't take it anymore.

because some laws were just for the tribes of Israel, and not other nations, also some were for entire planet. Not to mention it is written in the Bible that Jesus came as the fulfilment of the laws (as in those are now paid for) and here now is what you get to keep, as in you no longer need to stone your children (as you mentioned). You are repeating that joke thats floating around the internet.. that is old and only looks at one side.

You have made your decision, and that is fine. she and others have made theirs, that is fine. Her way of evangelizing is different than what i think it should be, and that is fine. you dont have to listen, you dont have to believe, you dont have to read... but please, you do not really need to belittle someone and mock them for their faith.

mercury,

I don't disagree that some Christians make a bad name for christianity...but I also do not believe you are balanced in your approach. You are also being pretty judgemental towards Christians that you don't even know on here.

So as another Christian, I personally believe there needs to be a balance between what your ideas are and those ppl who shove things down someone's throats...both ideas are off balance, in my opinion, according to what I have read in the bible.

I do not think I am perfect at all, and who knows what ppl will write back to this. I just think your idea is not very balanced, and I also don't think ppl who shove things down ppl's throats(forcing) are balanced either. Those are my opinions based on my beliefs.

Quoting me passages from the bible is like quoting me passages of Lord of the Rings.

although some of the lines in that movie are decent, i'd rather use "spaceballs" to quote from
