Getting a new job when I never received an extension letter / receipt

I've been filing my I751 at the end of 2018 (85+ days before my 2 year green card expired) and had my biometrics appointment on 05/06/2019, but I've never received an extension letter / receipt for the I751. I did get in contact with USCIS in April and they emailed me my case number, so I was able to look up my status online. The last thing it says there is just that the biometrics have been completed and they will contact me again when it's time for the next step. I haven't moved in the time between filing and now.

 

The issue that I have is that I'd like to start looking for a new job - since my green card is expired and I don't have an extension letter, I'm pretty sure that will cause issues when completing an I9.

 

What can I do to get this extension letter?

Do you have an unrestricted SS card + driver's license or state ID? That can work for an I-9 as well.

 

Next would be getting USCIS to resend the extension letter/receipt.

Beyond that, you can request an I-551 stamp (document services) via an appointment at your local USCIS field office.

The letter might take a couple weeks or so. Getting the stamp depends on your local field office's availability for appointments. That could also be a matter of weeks. Impossible to say which is sooner, sorry.

Normally they want the receipt notice to issue the stamp, but since you don't have one, it shouldn't be an issue.
