DX Couriers - Passport delivery procedures and questions

I'm anticipating the dispatch and return of my passport with the visa inside given that the status changed to 'Issued' late afternoon today and had some questions.

Obviously I've read everything available at: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv/information/courier and at: https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-gb/iv/information/faqs#track_documents

I'm having it delivered to my home as the nearest pickup location is about 270 miles/435 kilometres away.

Where I am, with the exception of The Royal Mail everything North of Inverness gets subcontracted for local delivery. So Hermes, DPD, DHL, FedEx, etc will all hand off to different local companies that deliver North of Inverness, this can cause some issues with tracking, etc but is mostly fine. They do the same for pickups.

With this in mind I'm wondering:

  • lf DX Couriers do this or will they make the journey themselves? I'm not sure if a similar procedure and setup is used in other locations.
  • Are DX Couriers an actual company with their own branded vans and drivers or do they subcontract by their very nature?
  • What kind of window will they give for the expected delivery, hours? Or just an entire day?
  • I know they technically shouldn't the first time but will they deliver to another adult at the location? I'm going to be there depending on the window but I was curious

  • Typically after issue, the embassy passes off the passport and white envelope to DX. (Cr1s don't get the white envelope anymore). Once they package it for delivery, DX generates the email and delivery is next day. That usually means delivery no more than two days after issued. BUT I have know people in remote areas of Scotland who did not get Next day delivery and I expect that will be the same for you. I don't know who delivers once it gets to, say Inverness the next day...Royal Mail?
  • I think so.
  • An entire day. No window on all the Next Day deliveries. Yours will not likely be Next Day, but only guessing from past experiences told.
  • Yes, they will release to another person, but you should leave some form of your ID with that person. Not sure how it will work if they hand off for delivery.

Discovered this recently after posting my initial questions:

"Please note: DX Secure deliveries to the Scottish Highlands & Islands, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, Inverness & Aberdeen, will be by third party Royal Mail Special Delivery for the final route to destination. Signature will be required."

A bit less secure than confirming identity, not that I'm complaining.

Received the passport back. Here's the timeline:

2019-10-15 - Interview.
2019-10-16 at 08:04 - Status changed to 'Administrative Processing'.
2019-10-16 at 14:00 - Status changed to 'Issued'.
2019-10-17 at 14:35 - Received email with a tracking number and saying the passport with the visa was dispatched.
2019-10-18 - Called DX Couriers as I was in a rural area and the status of the tracking number said: "Your item has been sent via 3rd party. Please contact your service provider." - They told me they sent it via Royal Mail Special Delivery that morning. It took a while to register but at 15:40 it was in the South Midlands Mail Centre.
2019-10-19 at 10:04 - Received the delivery.

Interestingly they passed it to the Royal Mail and no proof of identity, etc was asked for at delivery.

I note the visa has an annotation of: 212(g)(2)(b) - which I'm guessing is either because the flu vaccine was unavailable at my medical of because I didn't have the Varicella vaccine -- though I have had both chickpox and shingles

  • 2 years later...

I can see there are very positive experiences in this chat. My status changed to "issued' yesterday morning and I still have no communications from DX. I called DX and they said that if I have not received an email it means the Embassy has not handed the package to DX yet. Now I am so nervous that something has gone wrong in the dispatch. I have been waiting for this moment for very many months! I am so stressed out by the whole process. I intend to write to the Embassy this evening if I have no news (they do not accept calls), but are there experiences like mine - meaning not so efficient?
