I’ve been reading about this news story. As usual, I imagine there’s more to it than just swerving to avoid hitting an animal in Canada and then finding yourself in ICE custody

I live in WA and we used to live in the mountains up by the Canadian border. I can imagine that a bear could cause someone to race off in the opposite direction if they’ve never seen one before. But if WSP have got video evidence to the contrary, it’s all the more interesting. 

 

They have also said that they have “a relative who can sponsor” them. Why would that be even necessary if they were not planning to immigrate?

In another article I read about this---when asked "what animal were you trying to avoid?"  They could neither identify the species nor describe it.

Frigid temperatures??? They're Brits aren't they used to it being cold. Here's the actual weather data for Leesport, PA.  I seriously doubt a US federal facility is kept at "frigid" temps, costs too much.

My husband has done time in prison here in the US. In fact, he has been in a few jails and prisons as they tend to get moved around. Every single one was kept at a cold temperature, he always tells me. Apparently people are less aggressive when they are cold. Also they are big rooms with little furniture and no carpet. Move all the furniture and carpets out of your house and you’ll think it’s cold. 

 

So this is the only part of their story that I actually believe.

Nah, my mother would just turn up the furnace to 90 or something. Came home the other day it was 74 degrees outside and she had the heat on 78 in the house and was wearing summer capris, tee shirt and sandals. I'll check with a friend of mine, retired Fed corrects officer to  ask what the temps were in the facilities he worked at.

 

Edit: friend said usually 70 in winter and 68 in summer if the facility has AC.

Anyway, I noticed that the mother said that her cans of formula were confiscated. Obviously they had to be checked for drugs when she arrived at the facility (just as they would check any outside items). How many cans did she have with her if they were just out for a short drive? I’m interested to know what was in the car. If they were just out for the day then it shouldn’t be much more than a few cans of Pepsi and a KitKat. But if they had bags, suitcases, etc it looks even more suspicious.

Interesting.... I hadn’t heard that. Yet another oddity in their story.

So Washington Post reporting they had $16,000 cash on them. 

 

They were on the run. Pure and simple.
