Made a call for case out of time at texas 3 weeks ago ,still nothing !

I’m guessing it might be because embassies in some countries are probably still closed because of COVID so they’re probably trying to not overwhelm NVC right now. Because even if they approve it, it might get stuck at NVC until they can call for an interview.

APPROVED THIS MORNING! Received a text (it's a 505 area code - I had always wondered so thought I'd share) that our case had been updated, but could only see from my phone "Case Sent to Department of State". I then received an email that our case status was "Post Decision Activity" and was sent to Department of State for visa processing. About 10 minutes later a 2nd email arrived formally stating our petition has been approved!! A little confusion followed by pure excitement!

  • US Citizen filing for spouse - I-130 only
  • NOA1 - 10/8/2019 (Texas Service Center)
  • NOA2 - 6/24/2019 (Potomac Service Center)
  • Most recent update on MyUSCIS portal had been April 6th, 2020, so I honestly figured we had a ways to go and had kind of given up hope on anything happening anytime soon. Especially because we knew our case was with Potomac after calling to ask a few months back, and the recent update on processing times on the USCIS website for Potomac really freaked us out.

My husband received his NVC email to set up his account about 2 hours after our USCIS approval email.

This timing could not have been better - I fly tomorrow to see him for the first time since February with border closures. This will make reuniting with him even more special.

For those of you still waiting on your approval, I totally know that bittersweet, mixed feeling of hope and jealousy when someone else posts that they were approved (especially when their PD is after yours 😠), but hope you get to share your approval with us soon.

I’m not sure what you’re asking but if you’re talking about not being able to travel after getting the visa then that’s shouldn’t be a problem because you have up-to 6 months to travel after getting your passport stamped. And with the COVID restrictions, they might extend it to a year. He can just ask the interview officer. But if I were you I’d get the process done ASAP and get the visa atleast. NVC process takes a couple of months and then with the 6 months travel time you’ll have atleast until feb-March of 2021 to travel to USA. And I think that’s plenty of time and flights will be open by then.

Thank you so much, that answers a question I had not considered before 😊😊. I was referring to Nigeria being on the travel ban list for immigrant visas.

Oh that’s terrible. I just did some research and seems like if your spouse get to their interview and get approved for a green card then they should be able to travel. This must be terrible on top of being so far away from your spouse. I wish the best for you! GoodLuck!
