AOC could get away with a cheap haircut.

The tragedy about any cut given to her is that her hair only thinly covers her Occasional-Cortex.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Not sure why you are having a go at me, I said it was a human right.

I'm not having a go at you, silly. I mean, I know you're being facetious calling it a human right. I was only saying to dismiss the real problem-- ask women, not men, but women who face this problem-- in such a flippant way is to ignore the real issue with genuine necessities of life as a woman being taxed like luxuries.

I firmly agree with this 1000%.

BTW @Boris Farage and @laylalex I still go to GreatClips, but I go to the Greatclips closest to me and NEVER EVER on a weekend. I like the one closest to me because they always cut good (except for the new girl last week) and I get the shampoo with military discount for $14. I never go on weekends because every soldier around here goes there during the weekend to get their haircut and the wait could be up to 1 hour at times and the hairdressers are forced to cut guys hair at 15 minute increments.

Well, that's good. I'm glad you have an option you like and that works for you! 😊I have a stylist I like, and she can do things with my hair I have no way of doing myself. As an adult, I have never had a cut under $50 (except through a Groupon) I have liked. I used to go to Bokaos in Old Town on Hugus Alley if you know where that is, even when I wasn't making a ton of money in my first job. They just got my hair right, and made me look pulled together enough for my job. We were encouraged at work to look stylish and attractive (men and women), and hair and nails are expensive to maintain. If I stopped, it would reflect badly on the company, so I did it.

Give it a rest.  I pay tax on toilet paper.  And antibacterial soap and cream.  And gas. And... everything I purchase.  To include tampons and pads.  It has NOTHING to do with a product being for a man or a woman.  It has to do with commerce and supporting a community and obeying our laws.

Women pay more for things because they are emotional and believe advertising hype.  My wife has to buy shampoo, body wash, and facial soap, when all I buy is shampoo.  Cuz it cleans my body and face as well as my hair.  And I don’t need acne products because I don’t pack my pores with chemicals because some ad in a beauty magazine tells me I should.

Um, first. I don't think you know how acne works! You can have clean skin, not overly washed or anything, and sebum production can clog those pores if you're not washing several times a day. Or your hormones act up because it's that time of the month. Sorry, it's true.

Also, since when are toilet paper and antibacterial soap (really shouldn't use that btw) and cream and gas things only men use? Tampons and pads are only for menstruating women and girls. They get taxed. What thing out there is only for men that gets taxed? Don't say condoms because yep, those are for women benefit from those too. Just because you buy tampons for your wife doesn't mean that it somehow means men everywhere are buying them for spouses or girlfriends or whomever. Women bear the brunt of this tax. That's just the way it is.

Also, using shampoo on your body can be very drying. I recommend a decent moisturizer if you're going to do that.

Oh, and since we’re comparing cuts, I haven’t paid for a haircut in over 7 years.  Because my wife loves me.

You are lucky! I wouldn't trust Alex with my hair. He's lovely but he can't even slice a loaf of bread properly (we are working on it)!

I agree with @Boris Farage on this one, only the Democrats seems to pressure their "leaders" to be something they are not.  Otherwise, I don't really care about AOC as long as her GND goes away.

Yeah there are a couple people that I like to do my hair. There is one girl who is tatted up but dang does she cut good hair.

If you are ever in Old Town then look up the Dry Bar. I know a good hair stylist there that can do your hair up good. If only I wasn't married then I would have married that girl.

I have had my hair blown out at that Drybar, @Cyberfx1024! I admit living in Berkeley has been a bad influence on me (all the dirty hippies, lol) and I rarely have someone else do it these days, but I have a weakness for a great blowout.

But getting a blowout is definitely a luxury. I don't mind paying $50+ for it.

Well the lady I go to is $6 plus tip, I had not heard about a Blowout, will need to ask next time I go.

I think that some here might be missing the point. Yes, you can go to a salon that charges $7-20, but will that salon do a good job? From personal experience... no. Yes many of the men on this forum may have found someone somewhat competent in cutting... but as my mom (former stylist) once said... it is hard to wreck a man's hair, with ok training... but it is very easy to wreck a woman's hair with it. Does my current stylist wreck my hair? Not completely, but sometimes I leave dejected and thoroughly displeased. My husband has even had his cut lopsided on occasion.

The amount of training, regulations, and expense stylists at more costly locations go through really shows. What hair products you use really matters, what quality tools you have matters. Heck, when I need to get my dog groomed? Even that's getting expensive + tip these days.

And as for republican women getting critics about their hair/dress? Guys..... c'mon... have you erased Sarah Palin from your memory? Have you erased any woman that has run for office even in local elections? How about first ladies? Women get criticized about their looks period. Doesn't matter what side they're on.

It can do a lot towards helping you look polished and pulled together. And there are some very slim-barrelled round brushes so you don't need to have long hair to get volume and styling. 😊

I am hopeless at getting beachy waves with some volume to stay in my hair when I do it myself, so a blowout is useful.

I appreciate the offer but not sure you realise what you would be taking on.

It wouldn't be me doing it. You need a paid professional, and while I have a *little* bit of skill with doing blowouts, I'm generally kind of hopeless. You need someone who knows what he/she is doing, and that really isn't me.

Well I am already paying for my haircut, not sure I want to go that for, sounds like a lot.

Don't sell yourself short. Some practice and enthusiasm, it could be a new source of income for you, since you're losing one of those sources.

Well, I'd offer my hopeless skills but that's a long way to travel for what may be disappointing.

Well, it's not like I'm going to be destitute. I've been very clever with the money I receive -- I live well within my means, and regularly put a large amount of my monthly support aside for investment. I also have a sizeable lump sum I have only once touched, and Alex makes a respectable salary for the Bay Area. Also my ex is an idiot and recently started giving me more money in a side agreement. Don't cry too much for me. :) I won't need to be working on my blowout skills any time soon. As they are, they're probably good enough for my own uses at the moment.

Neither of would want to be disappointed.
