Hi everyone again,

We're trying to be as thorough as possible and always appreciate the wealth of information we find on this website. We filed our I-129F in May, got our NOA2 in August and received an invitation to schedule an interview in Montreal, Canada, in September. The K-1 interview is set for November 27.

Gathering everything needed for the interview, I came across this here below and it seems like we skipped a whole series of steps with NVC

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/after-petition-approved/begin-nat-visa-center.html

It talks about "choosing an agent" and sending in a series of documents to the NVC. Is this necessary? Does this concern other visas?

As far as we know, USCIS handed our file over to NVC, and then NVC to the U.S. Embassy (and consulate). I'm concerned that they still expect us to send them something.

Yours,

JL & ML

P.S. we made this checklist ourselves to try and consolidate everything it seems is required of me (the beneficiary) at the interview, according to what the consulate, USDS, and all the different departments seem to say.

Final checklist – Interview, U.S. Consulate Montreal 27 November 2019

  • Ticket with my number (will be given to me at the consulate).
  • Intent to marry letter, signed by petitioner within 30 days of interview, notarized (optional)
  • Confirmation page of DS-160, printed out.
  • A copy of the letter that the consulate sent you via e-mail on 2019-09-26 (print it out).
  • Packet checklist, filled out (have it already, in folder)
  • Packet-4 immigrant-visa checklist (starts on p. 6 of the PDF).
  • Jules’s updated resume.
  • Passport (mine) + photocopy of biographical pages (a copy of Mary’s wouldn’t hurt either, Justin Case).
  • Photocopies of proof of Mary’s permanent residence in the U.S.
    • Proof of address.
  • Birth certificate (Mary’s and mine + photocopies).
  • Police certificate.
    • Action item: contact
      • Send photocopy of police certificate, once obtained, to NVC.
      • Bring original and copy to interview.
  • Affidavit of support (I-134) with all supporting financial documents.
  • Evidence of relationship between the two of us.
    • Action item: figure out what to include
      • Photographs
      • Receipts, boarding passes, etc.
      • Text messages?
  • Two recent, colour, passport-style photographs.
  • Medical-examination results in a sealed envelope.
  • Read the IMBRA.

SEND copies of all required documents to NVC. (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/collect-and-submit-forms-and-documents-to-the-nvc/step-5-collect-supporting-documents.html.)

  • Do even need to do this at all? Doesn’t NVC have all these things already?

MAKE photocopies of everything you will submit at the interview.

None of that applied to you. It's for an immigrant visa (could be spouse or parents or sisters/brothers or children). The K-1 is technically a non-immigrant visa. Your next step is to show up at the interview and bring evidence of a bona fide relationship.
