Interesting quote, Emancipation. I was terrified of falling in love and remarrying because of the possibility of my husband pre-deceasing me and having to live through that devastating grief. (I've been through that situation before.)

All actions carry risks, including adherence to the "nonnegotiable conditions" for "personal security and safety". Those, to me, speak of someone who has chosen to withdraw from life rather than live life. If I'd remained "a prisoner of fear" I would never have known the comparable highs that balance the lows.

On the ironic side.... I was terrified of NOT marrying him and having to live through that devastating grief, too. I love life. There's just so much humour to it.

Well spoken my friend!! This is the quote that helped me take my Visa journey.. although I hadn't lost a marraige to death, I lost one to divorce and abuse, and it took me years to get over it and allow myself to take that risk again.. I think I learned that only in being open can I truly live, only in allowing myself to be vunerable and take some risk in love can I truly find it. Those moments when I feel most close to B. is when I am brutally open and transparent with him. It's risky, scary but ultimately worth every bit of risk.

I have to echo Emancipation here as well. I *had* to get over the fear of being abused again. Joel was so patient...so loving...gentle. I decided that risking all that again was worth it as opposed to NOT having Joel in my life. When I first saw his eyes, I knew...the gentleness of his words were reflected in the gentleness of his eyes. One year later...it's still there. :luv:
