Hello, I moved to the US beginning of 2016 I filed for adjustment of status through my wife US citizen and I have a conditional green card since 2017 I'm currently waiting for my 10 years green card but I have a valid extension letter from USCIS. My passport expired in 2016 while I'm here and It takes too long to renew with my embassy. I have to go home now I haven't been there for long time and I can renew my passport easily while I'm there. would it be a problem when I'm leaving from the airport here in the US on expired passport? I really appreciate any advice I need to go home for a break

Absolutely.  You will not board a plane with an expired passport.

Don't make the mistake of buying a ticket as passport is not usually required

but you do need a valid passport to board

My embassy is asking for 2 months to renew my passport. bcz they have to replace it, do you think I should just go in person and talk to my embassy? is there any paper work they can do ?

That might work....but you MUST have a valid passport to leave the US.  Is there some reason you have not renewed it within the last 3 years?

I do  not know what country this is

but my husband renewed his county's passport last spring

he sent to embassy in the USA and they sent it to Morocco  so it took almost 2 months for the renewal

you should call  your US embassy and ask for the best answer

There's no reason other than it takes 2 months and I'm in the middle of a process here so I didn't feel giving them my passport for that long. I didn't want to go home but now it's kinda urgent. What doesn't make sense is why would it be problem to enter my own country if I have my ID from there. Airlines get fined for letting someone board to a country without a valid Visa but here I'm going to my home country! how is it possible that I can't go home for 2 months how if it's urgent!  Thanks btw for the conversation

Airline rules for boarding international flights?

Nonsense,  the airline must validate that the individual has the proper documentation to seek entry at their final destination.   Many if not most countries will admit there own citizens even if their passport had expired.

YMMV

It's nonsense to me too, I should be free to go home anytime I want. I'm legal and I have clean records.

To be safe, I would go to the embassy and explain the situation.  Maybe they can expedite your passport renewal.

Generally embassies can provide an emergency document valid for travel, for example a passport replacement valid for one year only.  You may have to provide proof of an emergency. Just call your embassy and ask what your options are.
