Trump did not Betray the Kurds

by Caroline B. Glick - published on 2019-10-11

The near-consensus view of US President Donald Trump’s decision to remove American special forces from the Syrian border with Turkey is that Trump is enabling a Turkish invasion and double-crossing the Syrian Kurds who have fought with the Americans for five years against the Islamic State group. Trump’s move, the thinking goes, harms US credibility and undermines US power in the region and throughout the world.

There are several problems with this narrative. [...]

So pretty much what I have been saying. We would have to stay forever if we want to protect the Kurds there and Obama just threw them there to block Turkey from helping Assad and was supposed to be pulled out anyway.

Trumps a coward. And so are the European leaders who are doing nothing to stop this Turkish nonsense. I can't speak for anyone else but as far as I'm concerned they won't be forgiven for it, although I have a feeling I'm not alone in that.

We have witnessed the final nail in the coffin of the "American empire". This is our own Rome moment.

Obama put them there but that was OK I guess. Guess we were supposed to stay forever because the Obama the nitwit said we should. He could have cared less as he was leaving and left it for someone else to clean up his messes as usual. He is safely in one of his mansions that he is buying laughing with his untold millions. Not bad for an empty suit huh? Heh.

I would be ok with staying in Rojava and the people there would be ok with it as well. We just left a people that did all the heavy lifting against Daesh with no.kind of support at all. Just leaving them to the Turks and the Turkish backed FSA. Now the Kurds had to turn to the SAA for help which was the last thing they wanted to do.

Basically we did a big FU to all of the guys who got hurt or killed in Syria.

So why should we stay forever and spend a fortune there? We never should have went in but Obama and Hillary wanted a regime change but couldn't or wouldn't finish so now we have to stay forever to ensure the Kurds are safe. Is there any way you can foresee us ever being allowed to leave that region and the Kurds be safe? Do you think we should be in the middle east and spending a fortune and our soldiers dying and if so for how long? I am not belittling you here but am honestly curious. I personally don't want us in the middle east at all and want all troops out and in advance I also mean Israel and Palestinians need to be cut off from all aid and monies. Also yes I want us out of Korea and Japan also. They are wealthy and can fund their own defense.

The Republicans or RINO's anyway are wanting us there also and are no better. Trumps former Sec. of State wanted us to go to war against Iran. That was going to be a real ####### fest. The amount of money and the death tolls of our troops were going to be yuge and nobody seems to care really.

Who's to say Trump wouldn't have put them there "to fight ISIS"? This isn't about Obama vs Trump. I wasn't a big Obama fan either. I think I'm one of the few middle of the road dudes in this forum who haven't ended up in a ditch yet. The way this was handled, is shameful. Point blank. Trump was a coward by pulling out and letting the Turks do as they wish, and he was a coward the second time when he threatened the US will react harshly and then sits on its hands.

As I said, the other leaders around the world who are doing nothing(who never even had soldiers there) are also cowards. They are allowing a rogue, criminal leadership blackmail them because if they do anything he will "open up the borders" and they have to deal with the refugees they are paying him to keep. The demise of any sort of western moral or ethics...letting Putin, Erdogan, Assad and Khamenei run the show. What a disaster...and Trump basically signed off on it.

Also the quoted article in the OP was written in a paper that exists for one purpose only and that's to toot Netanyahu's horn. As a Jew, I am baffled so many are willing to stand by and let the Turks repeat the atrocities they committed against the Armenians in the past, and I am not the only one. There have been protests in Israel in favor of the Kurds as well. They haven't been perfect either but the way they have been treated, and essentially deserted by everyone, if I was a young Kurdish child I'd feel the exact same way a young Jewish boy would have felt in the early 1940's.

I think Obama and Hillary were cowards for passing on their problems to others and ride off into the sunset with their riches. Why should we then have to handle it how they see fit. We need to pull out of the middle east and bring our troops home and stop wasting our fortune and lives there. Trump is doing what I want and leaving the morass behind and bringing my brother soldiers home where they belong. If Trump shuts down any base and brings us home I will be happy. To call him a coward because he doesn't want to be bogged down is ridiculous to say.

Any aid we give Israel is a loss to our country as we can use that hard earned money taken from us citizens back home and handle our own needs. Tossing a fortune to Israel or the Palestinians is throwing good money after bad. A waste of time and effort. If Israel or Palestine needs money go get it somewhere like the UN  that cares about meddling in others affairs. My whole life we keep handing money and we still have the same old #######. Nothing will ever change there and it is futile for us to keep trying.

And there you go bringing up Obama and Hillary again...since you've made it political, I'm out. Trump is a coward because he bows down to Putin and Erdogan.

Regarding Israel, no aid to it is a loss to the US, quite the contrary but think whatever you want. Most of that money(74%) comes right back and is used to buy from American companies, the rest goes to aid a country that helps you tremendously as far as intelligence and other benefits go. The whole western world would literally not be what it is without Israel(and it wouldn't be for the better). The issues in the US have nothing at all to do with foreign aid, the money is wasted here at home by a bloated, out of control government(and that, btw, has nothing to do with whatever party is in charge).

Buh bye. Thanks for nothing and Israel is a leech. We give them money to spend 74% back to us? Ridiculous as we could save the middle men and spend 100% here. Obama and Hillary gets us into a mess and Trump is the coward for getting us out. Smh.

Many folks seem to be making the assumption that Turkey was simply holding back due to the presence of the US SF team, and President Trump told Erdogan he was pulling them out giving the green light to an invasion.  What if the call had Erdogan warning President Trump they were heading in regardless of the US presence?

I am pretty sure he did and Trump wanted to protect his troops so he pulled them back. We really don't have that many and to stop them we would have needed much more and he probably didn't want to ramp up our presence there. Turkey has always considered the Kurds a mortal enemy and always will. Why should we get in the middle of that?
