The whole abstinence thing the Catholic Church keeps bleating on about sounds good in theory, but in reality its one of the reasons that HIV/AIDS has spread so fast in parts of Africa. In that respect its pretty evil, IMO.

What’s needed is a consistent and “realistic” message. What the CC don’t seem to understand is that while they might be touting an ideal, it simply isn’t a realistic one and it overestimates human nature.

Totally. Its all politics as far as the CC is concerned. Having lost much of its influence in the developed world the church doesn't promote that position as aggressively here as they do in Africa & South America.

More than that - I don't see why I should trust a bunch of old men who aren't allowed to "do it" at all. If the recent abuse scandals are anything to go by, keeping to a life of celibacy is anything but easy.

I think the church needs to think clearly what year we're in, what is society like these days, and not expect people to have the same standards, to thinl the same way, to live by the rules of times past. It's not doable.

I just am not sure I completely agree with the abortion part of her comment. I think abortion should be legal in Brazil in certain cases, like rape, certain malformations, etc.

But at the same time it's really sad to see some women using abortion as a contraceptive, and I've seen that. In fact, mom had a friend who had like 5 abortions, refusing to use any form of contraceptive, since her husband had a clinic (not an abortion clinic, remember, in Brazil that's still illegal) and she could have the abortions for free. Oh well, on her 6th abortion the doctor performing it ended up puncturing her uterus, she had peritonitis and died.

lol.. as i said, I didn't realize that it was THAT rare, and it does have its positive points... no experiences to compare him to.. no worries about prego or STDs... no hatred towards the male species for hurting me ... and best of all!! I never die in a horror movie!!
