Hello,

so my wife came to the US this past may and we promptly got married and started the green card process and submitted all of the forms. My question now is today we received a request for more info. I sent in my 2018 1040 and a few current check stubs from my job.
so my 2018 1040 was $103,000 and I’m on track to make around $165,000 this year yet they are saying we need a joint sponsor. I do have 6 children from 2 previous marriages that I pay support for but I am not the custodial parent of.

this seems crazy to me if anyone could help I’d appreciate it.

Side not she did come over with a K1

I moved your thread to the right forum. You are no longer applying for a K1 visa so that was the wrong place to post.

This is key in the RFE asking for a joint sponsor.  What are your total financial obligations to support the six children and previous spouses?  Any previous I-864s on file with USCIS?  Has your high income been stable over the last three years or is it recent?  They consider the totality of your financial circumstances in making decisions, not only your current income, but also expenses to support your own and other households financially.

I’m obligated to pay roughly $4000 per month in child support and my income has grown over the last three years. My current income amount is even higher. No previous I-864s

Even at your 2018 of 103K, minus your 48K child support, leaves 55K, more than enough for 2 (you and your wife).  I wonder if they are counting the 6 kids as household members for a total of 8 people?  Thinking you have 55K left for a family of 8.  Just guessing.

That’s what I’m thinking. I’m just not sure how to rectify it.
