We waited 18 months (yes the Dominican Republic is tough) for a K-1 consulate interview, which I attended. We were interviewed separately by two different men --- and our answers were right on. They said they believed our relationship, but needed to do further administrative processing. They were very vague. Although the taking of all 10 fingerprints was a clue.

After speaking with the State Dept visa specialist, he is pending security clearance. She says his fingerprints have cleared and that the security clearance takes ON AVERAGE 3-4 months. His started in late April.

I'm pretty sure he has a "false hit" on his name. This is what I get for falling for a Latino with a "common name".

Does anyone have experience with passing State Dept clearance, recently? Any ideas of how to track progress --- besides calling the visa specialist monthly?

Thanks for sharing knowledge.

Hello! I have a question regarding how your husband called the FBI. How did he do it? Is there a specific number he called? My fiance and I have been stuck in AP for the last almost 3 months now. I keep on calling the Department of state and keep on getting the same answer that your case is still pending security clearance. It would be great to find out in what phase of the security clearance his case is in. Thanks!!

hi,dos told me my security check is pending, I emailed the consulate about my status, they said my case is under name check security, don't know how long do I have to wait.

the No. we called is as follows, when you call, you also need to tell them you alien Number, which is on the approval notice I-797C I think, and is better you can tell them you name and date of birth. best luck!

In the same situation here! ;) I dont know that my hubby's name gets much more common!!!!

I was just wondering if anyone awaiting security clearance on the name check had done an FBI check prior to that on their own?

Our lawyers did on on my husband before we even sent in the 1130 - just to become aware of anything that may come up in the future. We sent the 10 fingerprints - and the reply came back as "no record"

Does this mean our chances of getting caught up in a namecheck further down the line are reduced? OR because they are being submitted for different reasons are they processed differently?

I am pretty new to all of this - and just trying to figure out where potential hang ups might come from.

yes, that no. is just for fingerprints check, they won't give you information about name check. but you can contact DOS visa office to know your case status directly. 202-663-1225. good luck!

Hi -

I found this article on VJ. I'll repost the link here www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/SecurityNameChecksAndAdministrativeReview.html

from Dec 2006 by an immigration attorney. He talks about unsuccessful "pre screening".

Note: security name checks is just one type of potential AP/AR that can delay a visa issuance.

It seems the names checks can come up at 3 points in this process: 1) during the NVC screen -- seems to be men from specifc countries 2) during the consulate screen. There is something called the CLASS - Consulate Lookout and Support System. I think this is where mi novio's name got a red light. 3) during AOS (Adjust of Status -- something K-1 visits do after US marriage.

After the CLASS name hit, the consulate takes ten fingerprints (instead of the usual 2) and $85. The name and fingerprints go to the State Dept. I think the State Dept clearance involves 3 steps: Fingerprints, Facial Recognition and ???. I was told, by a visa specialist, mi novio's fingerprints cleared. When my congressperson's office spoke with the consulate, the consulate said mi novio was on the last step - facial recognition. I called the State Dept to ask if the consulate needed him to return to the consulate for this facial recogntion. She was surprised I used that terminology, seems to be insider words.

The unknown piece of the 3 clearance steps would probably be a name clearance --- run it and the birthdate through every database possible?

Does anyone have anything to add to my understanding, please?
