Hey everyone. My fiance just proposed to me on Monday while i was visiting him. I was just looking at the K1 Visa application. Question 62.a asks which U.S. Embassy/Consulate beneficiary will apply for. He is from Nigeria but has been studying in Malaysia for the past 5 years on student Visa. Will he be able to report/apply for Embassy in Malaysia for interview/processing or will he have to go to Nigeria's Embassy? (Malaysia would be more convenient for him since this is where he lives/has been for the last few years      Please assist. Any info is helpful

Whereever he chooses to interview ,  he will need a criminal report from both these countries 

he can apply online to Nigeria but he has to send his passport and fingerprints and it is only good for 3 months so timing  is tight to get it done (mail is slow in Nigeria)

He can choose to interview where he legally resides or where he has citizenship. Generally it’s better to do so where you currently reside IMO.

10/24/18: Green card produced notice, 10/25/18: Formal approval, 10/31/18: Green card received

Yes he can complete the visa process in Malaysia as long as he is there with legal status.

 

NVC tends not to look at question 62a when forwarding the case file to the embassy.   When completing "home address" in the I-129F make sure to use his address in Malaysia, if you use an address in Nigeria it is very likely that is where NVC will ship the case file.
