Hello everyone,

My fiancée and I are going through the K1 Visa process at the moment (we have received our case number and our file is being sent to the embassy Ireland). As of August this year I am receiving a stipend which puts me well above 125% of the poverty line for a two person household in my state. I have a financial agreement from my university guaranteeing that I will be receiving this stipend for the next 5 years. However, before this I was earning much less than the poverty line for a two person household and my most recent tax return will reflect that. Because of this, I am worried that we will not have enough evidence that I meet the income requirements. Should we get a co-sponsor to sign the I-134?

IMO, current and future earnings mean more than what happened in the past.  Since you are well above the requirement (your words) now and will be for the near future, you should be fine.  Personally, I would go in without a joint sponsor, but maybe have some discussions with family or friends just in case the CO asks for one at interview time.  Btw, for the I134 stage you only have to meet 100% the HHS poverty guideline.

Good Luck!
