Evolution Could Explain Why Having a Girlfriend Makes Men More Attractive

Alex sent me this article overnight with the note that I'd better get on the plane soon to meet him over in the UK because now that he and I are firmly together, he can't keep the women off him, especially when he shows them pictures of the two of us. 😠 NOT HELPING!

 

Most test subjects have been undergraduates at Western universities — enrolled in psychology classes — as is true with much research in the field. So claims about humans in general should be viewed with caution until more data exists from people of diverse ages, cultures, education levels, gender identities and sexual orientations.

 

But the data we do have suggest that being with a woman — particularly a beautiful one thought to be the significant other — does increase a man’s appeal in the minds of female evaluators. In a 2018 review, 16 out of 18 studies found adding a presumed romantic partner to a man’s photo made other women score him as more attractive or desirable than the same man solo. Additionally, the studies that varied the beauty of the female partner found that making her more attractive also increased his score.

I dont need a study to prove that. I was involved in a singles group. They guys that didnt have a date ever, but really wanted a girl badly, rarely had any success.

 

My theory, when I joined the group,  was start ugly, then work your way up until you were dating women way out of your league. Once you dated a semi attractive girl it was like the domino effect .

 

also once you got pegged as being somewhat of a bad boy, or word got out you had side women it exploded. I have overheard 1 women telling another to stay away from me,becausee all I cared about was one thing and I used women, it was like throwing gas on a fire.

 

A girl one night at an event started telling others that I was a really nice guy and gentleman,Interruptedd her and changed the subject.

This study seems to say more about insecure single women too interested in other people's lives and men than their own business. Guess that's why they're single.

 

I don't really buy it honestly. My husband will always be the hottest thing anywhere. I shall endeavor to tell him this even when we are old and grey. The attention he receives is amusing but related to his accent only.

Basically, your gender corresponds with the sex you were born with. So I was born a girl, and I identify as being a woman. A cisgender person can be heterosexual or homosexual or pansexual or whatever -- it's not about sexual attraction.

Yeah, I kind of distrust the whole evolutionary psychology thing as well the article is based in. I know what you say about the accent thing though -- it never fails to make me crack up when women fawn over Al. It feeds his ego too, I know. And none of them can ever hear that he's Scottish because he has this super-posh accent -- I can hear it, but that's because I've grown used to him -- and when he corrects them on this point, it just makes them swoon more. (It also helps that he's kind of hot, but that could just be me. )

There was an interesting news item yesterday about a woman who identified as trans but still went for men, so she basically presumably considers herself gay?
