Hello!

I'm just a bit overwhelmed about what to do next. I called NVC today and got our case/invoice number which was assigned yesterday. I asked the agent if I need to now do DS-160 and he advised to wait until we receive an email that the file is being posted to the embassy.

I've logged in to the case tracker on CEAC and it states:
"Please follow the instructions you received from the National Visa Center (NVC) that list the six steps you must take before NVC can schedule your visa interview appointment. This includes submitting to NVC various fees, forms and documents. Once NVC has received all the required items, they will let you know if anything is missing or incomplete. You can also find these instructions online at http://nvc.state.gov (English) and http://nvc.state.gov/espanol (Spanish). You will find contact information for NVC at http://nvc.state.gov/ask                                                             "

I was under the impression I have to wait for the "Ready" status where I'd be invited for interview and I can then complete the DS-160?? Nevertheless I accessed the link above for the instructions (as the above says I won't be invited for interview until I do the 6 steps) and step one advises to nominate an agent. I log on to this to nominate and I'm told the following:

"K visas are nonimmigrant visas that assist spouses or future spouses of American citizens in entering the United States. As with all nonimmigrant visa applicants, a DS-160 must be filled out in order for a consular section to process the case."

I'm really confused now what to do and if I have to do the DS-160 now or not? One person is telling me to wait for the "ready" status however the tracker is saying the above and I won't be invited for interview until DS-160 is completed? Which is correct? I'm baffled about what steps I have to follow now and feel really frustrated :(

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

You can do the ds160 anytime.  You will never be "invited " to an interview as the applicant schedules it.

Find the UK regional forum on VJ for all questions specific to London

YMMV

Thankyou for helping with this.

I just want to confirm I'm right in assuming we just wait for contact by email the embassy has received the documents before we proceed and there's nothing really to do until then (despite the CEAC tracker being very unclear and directing me to the wrong information!!):).

Thankyou, I thought I did post in the UK regional forum?

So I'm fine to complete DS-160 now then despite the embassy not receiving yet? I understand I won't be invited I meant to say they were "ready" for me to book the interview :)

@HiSarahJayne

jump into to this thread for a list of things to do and some links and some comments further down.  The OP doesn't get it but maybe you will.

You can start today with DS-160 and getting all the stuff needed before your medical. Read all the links. They will give you a medical appointment if you can give them your LND number over the phone. But you will need something in writing to show when you get there (NVC email or London consulate letter) So don't make an appointment for tomorrow. By the time you get your stuff together, you should have something official with your LND number in it.
