Is that how it works? I don’t WANT my birth name I want the name I’ve used all my life which is the same name on my green card, passport and everything else, my birth name has only cropped up now for the first time in 25 years, but as I said he made me sign a name change document because he wanted me to have a more official document

We had to show ID to a guard to enter the building for security, but not the oath ceremony letter at that point; such a discrepancy wouldn't have been an issue at all in terms of entering the building.

At my oath ceremony I saw people who had their name changed against their will by the IO

Based on what we discussed earlier, you should be fine.  I think @little immigrantdidn't realize that the way the IO structured this it should end up with a legal document showing your name change to the name you are currently using.  Once you do complete your oath, please come back and update us as to what actually happens.

That's right, I think my case is unique in the sense my name change already occured 25 years ago, he stated he'd like me to have a more official document signed by a judge, so he approved it under my birth name and at the same time had me sign a name change document that would be approved before my oath ceremony, I'll definitely let you know what happens after my Oath on the 31st, thank you very much for the help/advise Bill & Katya, I really just wanted some reassurance and you've certainly given me that!
