Japanese Police Clearance in Brown Envelope

After a month and a half of waiting, Mylene received her police clearance from the Japan Embassy today. She was told by the Japanese woman at the embassy that she was not to open it. The Police Clearance is in a sealed brown envelope and says on the front,

To be opened by the addressee only. To return this police certificate unopened to the issuer should it not be submitted to the addressee.

To the authorities concerned, United States of America.

Content: Police Certificate

To the best of her knowledge Mylene had no issues in Japan, but having it in her hands and not being able to see the words "No Record" is kind of bothering her.

Has anyone before opened their Japanese Police Clearance envelope with or without issue at the interview? Is it standard procedure to leave it sealed? This is obviously Japan's requirement, but I'm not sure if the USE Manila has the same requirement.

Thanks,

CB

I say if it states don't open it then don't open it. Don't give them something to put you on AR. Good luck!

I agree... why give them reason to delay your case further... You can have a look at it at the time of the interview if they will let ya :)

If she was told not to open it and also stated in the envelop that only addresse should open it.... then DON'T OPEN IT!!! Leave it as is... don't give them reason to put you in delays/AR by not following simple instructions. She knows better what her records were, if she thinks and believes she has done nothing in the past (while in Japan), then there's nothing to be worried about. Just relax, prepare and wait for your interview. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks so much for your opinions .. :)

Now to restate the question, (refer to the quote from the original post below), has anyone ever opened the envelope and either suffered reprocussions, or not?

Thanks,

CB

I am curious about this myself. When we get a police certificate here in Canada, it is printed out and handed to us. No envelope. Nothing is a secret.

I assume that all of the US Consulates would follow the same guideline- the medical results have to be sealed and unopened. That is written in stone.

I have never heard anything about Police Certificates having to remain sealed.
