Visa is now on “ISSUED” on CEAC website.
Can we celebrate now and make flight plans ?
Does this mean that it’s being sent now ?
It says allow 10 working days to get to his home ?

Cheers mate. He has a visa!

It still has to go to the courier and get prepared for delivery. You will be notified when they have scheduled delivery. Don't book anything for this weekend. Things that go wrong...truck breaks down and doesn't come the day promised, the name is misspelled and it has to go back to London, white packet is unsealed and  has to back, white packet has somebody else's name on it....etc.

i thought he had to give notice at work?? He can do that.

Has he filled out the P-85 for leaving the UK?

Cancel phone? Sell stuff? Pack?

Are fight prices cheaper two weeks out over last minute?

Yes, He needs to

1 Give  two weeks notice at work

2. I have to call my County Clerks Office as they only do marriages upon request.

We just filled out our marriage license on-line but they want notice and a date to schedule the ceremony. If I have a arrival date than that will help me do this.
(We than can get the marriage certificate the same day)

2. He has to keep phone- he has a year left.
That or we pay the 380 Pounds to just be done with it (that we are still discussing)

3. He lived with his parents and had his own “flat” within the house ; so to say and paying rent.

4. Nothing to sell. The last few years (sounds crazy), he has been keeping his clothes here after each visit

5. Remember he is 23 and we have been together around 4 years so he had just got out of college when we first met.
He has had his life in limbo for this long.

We waited to file but he did not start his life in the U.K. besides a job to save money for us.

6. Flights right now are extremely cheap.
A round trip is running around 350 pounds.
I’m not sure why but that’s with scheduling a flight for two weeks time.

That’s the form I was explaining to him !
The p-85. He needs this from his employer for tax purposes for the U.S. if my memory serves me right.

We are not looking to do a quick flight but more a time line so I can return to work from maternity leave (I used my 6 weeks of vacation time) and we can start planning the above as well.
I’m hesitant to have him put in notice or schedule a flight for two weeks just in case, as you said, something odd happens while the visa is en route to the house.

It’s more so for planning and peace of mind so we can plan our next steps on when to arrive.

Thanks 😊

It's a form he files to get tax back from the U.K. Available online https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/income-tax-leaving-the-uk-getting-your-tax-right-p85

He doesn't need any form from his UK employer to file his US tax return, but he needs to know how much he made from Jan 1 until he quits. Pay slips or ask his payroll department to help him. It is not on a form like a W2 here.

Ok. So the p-85 will give him tax money back ? That’s awesome. That doesn’t happen in the U.S. often as you know.

If ever, it’s once a year.
Than we also need to ask his employer to give him the information on income he made this year.
Sweet- I was clueless on this as you can tell.
I don’t know how I’ll tackle taxes this year.

Ive always used HR block so I’m assuming I need someone specialized in this.
I did save your link that you posted for someone else on taxes and “resident alien" .. that should definitely get me started.

Congratulations!! Yes celebrating is definitely the thing to do. We cried we were so happy! They give the time frame as 10 days. We had ours in about half that. Id wait and book the flight until you have the visa is in hand just to be safe that it doesn’t get delayed by mail or anything. 😁

Sarah, are you getting enough sleep 😂

Of course we only get refunds once a year because we only file and "settle up" with IRS once a year to see who owes the other money.

He MAY get a refund if more has been held out of his pay than was necessary. I got some from two years of too much held out. It got paid into my UK bank account which I kept open.

For his US tax return, he will need to know how much he earned in calendar year 2019. It is self reported, meaning IRS asks for no documentation.  If he has play slips or can check his bank deposits since Jan 1, then he may know without asking employer. Or it may be easier for them to pull up a pay history. Remember it starts from Jan 1 and is not the U.K. tax year which starts in April.
