Wait time

Not sure what sub forum this should be posted in, but saw some Netflix documentary on immigration and coming to the USA. The woman, from Mexico, stated she waited 18 years for her green card. We just filed the i-130 for my spouse, who is from Colombia but resides in Mexico, and it’s being processed in the Nebraska office, but has me worried it will take that long to come here.  If that’s the case probably be easier for me to leave everything behind and just reside in Mexico too if I’m going to have to wait 18 years too.

I doubt your spouse will be waiting 18 years.  The typical wait times for a CR1 with no big issues such as overstays or a required waiver is 14-16 months.

Good Luck!

@Rubenc24     The average spousal visa takes 12-18 months from filing to visa in hand........I haven't watched the program, but it sounds like she might have been banned for several years.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Thank you! Yes i think it’s a simple case. Never been to the USA. No criminal record, no property or children involved.

This whole process is filled with questions, worry, fear, and more.  It requires a great deal of knowledge, planning, time, patience, and money.  Good luck......
