My wife does not intend to work until she completes some classes she's taking a the local university, (next spring at the earliest). I see no reason in filing the I-765 as we can just wait for her green card. Is there any other reason to file the I-765?

If she is not planning on working BEFORE she gets her greencard, then no, there is no real reason to file for EAD. However, it serves as a form of ID and might make it easier for your wife to get her Social Security number and DL. Good luck!

You don't need the I -765 as a form of identification to get the S.S. number and card. All you need is the I-94 which should have been attached to her passport upon her entry into the U.S. at her POE by the Immigration Officials.

Wait about 2 weeks after entry for the info to be entered into the data base and you can go to your local S.S. office and apply for the Card and Number. Bring the Passport with the I-94 attached.

Some states require EAD to get a drivers license/state ID. If she isn't going to work, that's the only reason she should get it I guess. However not all AOS applications are speedy, so the EAD is a good insurance for when things go wrong.
