i have been checking timelines of other members. with the same uscis processing location & country my fiance is from. something occured to me. i don't even know what packet-3 & packet-4 are. i'm thinking one is a notice for me to gather support & other evidence, and one for her to get her things (nbi, nso, local police, medical, etc). is this correct?

Packet 3 is received by your fiancee once your USCIS approved petition reaches his/her consulate. It is a set of instruction on what documents are needed for the interview and where to go to have the medical examination done. (It is basically a checklist in which your fiancee checks off each item that has been gathered. Once all documents are ready, the checklist is signed and sent back to the consulate -- by doing so, signaling the beneficiary's readiness for the interview. Packet 4 is then received from the consulate which is the appointment letter, stating the time and date of the interview.

Good luck!

mikeo,

Archaic terminology - the packet system for immigration processing was done away with years ago. The terms packet 1 and packet 2 have gone out of use, but the terms packet 3 and packet 4 linger on even within the DOS.

As P's post indicates, packet 3 would be more appropriately called the visa application packet and packet 4 would be more appropriately called the visa interview packet.

yodrak- thank you for the clarification.

i have a suggestion to yourself & all mods & admins: i think it would be a good idea to put an explaination of the packet numbers in the guides/flowchart. incase anyone else is unclear like i was.

thanks.
