Well, he had a say in getting married too,  right?

I think it was the Divorce cost that was being commented on, and no say n that.

Well, having a good prenup can help you control costs, if you're the partner more likely to be paying alimony.

it is a bit like saying it is good to have a fire extinguisher if you light your house on fire.

No one is forcing anyone to get married, one hopes. There are risks involved, to your heart and your mind and your bank balance. If people don't want to take the risks, they shouldn't get married. I mean, that kind of goes without saying, right? I'm getting remarried, and there is 100% going to be a prenup involved, but this time it's my assets that are more at risk. I don't intend to get divorced again, but I would be a fool not to take precautions. I'm going to make sure I have a VERY large fire extinguisher. :)

Prenups may mitigate the risk, they do not negate the risk. I agree it does depend on the level of risk you are comfortable with which is inevitably a personal decision.

You probably should write a blog for women on how to get married and ensure your financial future with a rich guy and a prenup.  Sure would cut down on these younger women marrying older, successful men.

If I did, it would be short:

(1) be very young and attractive

(2) go to a party with a bunch of well-off young people

(3) try to hook up with one guy (not rich) but get yourself peeled off by another (very rich)

(4) dither between both guys for months

(5) end up with rich guy

(6) have your dad convince you to get a prenup

(7) choose a mate whose own father hides his son's assets during prenup

(8) have stultifying marriage blow up (extra credit if you run off with husband's BFF), during divorce full (maybe) extent of finances exposed

(9) profit!

Extra extra credit: marry husband's former BFF so you can roll around together naked in piles of sweet sweet cash and cackle about your good luck (though you will have to pay for your own Netflix)
