My parents IR-5 interview will be on  22 November, Should we consider getting health insurance before interview ?? Presidential Proclamation on Health Care is blocked by judge for 28 days.  Please advise. Thanks

I certainly recommend it regardless of the proclamation or not.

Agreed - it is wise to look at the options, process, etc. and have a plan. This is unrelated to the proclamation, though.

I can't speak for OP but for myself I obviously have a plan for my parents healthcare if they manage to get eveything resolved and get here, but that plan requires setting them up once here. The reality of getting them coverage before they arrive is highly tricky compared to resolving that coverage once they are here.

Getting them coverage to bolster there case for interview is to me very different to getting them actual coverage they will need once they arrive. Proving you intend to cover them is also not that easy to do before they arrive. I think this is all the confusion.

If they just came forward with you need to get coverage and this is how you can do it before interview I'd be all for that since I know my parents will actually need coverage, but that involves working with insurance companies and opening better pathways to get there

I've called the US Embassy in Manila, Philippines 3 times asking about the health care insurance directive and none of them (including one supervisor) have not a clue as to what I'm referring to or talking about. Maybe Manila was left out of the loop and didn't get the memo. I have 13 year old immigrant who will have an interview on November 12. She had her physical and is in perfect health, has zero health issues, so I assume (maybe incorrectly) that the counselor officer would not have a concern that she would pose a health risk in the next year. Also, I've not found a way to buy health insurance for a 13 year old, she is not our daughter, she is my wife's younger sister, so she can't be included on our health insurance. Does anyone know of a company that would sell a policy to a 13 year old?

It is also currently not required as there is a temporary restraining order on the requirement. Hopefully sometime today the actual state department will comment on this. Her interview will happen before the restraining order is lifted.

Welcome to Trump's world.

A federal judge has a temporary injunction against Trump's health care requirement.   This was anticipated.

With a dysfunctional Trump Administration, it's not a surprise that the US Embassy has no idea what their superiors want or rant about.  Unless it's official, they don't care about the noise from Trump and company.

You don't need to worry about this.

Makes you wonder how you can bring a 13 year old sibling when the process takes longer.

Well an adopted child could be added to their now Parents policy.

It took us about 3 years to get to this point. We may adopt, but that couldn't happen in the 30 days required. But it looks like health care insurance won't be an issue as this will not be resolved until after she is hopefully in the US. As she passed her physical with flying colors, and she is so young, I'm not really worried about health insurance for her at this point. We'll eventually figure it out. Thanks for all the replies.

If my wife gets the insurance already so that i can go to the interview with it, will that be proof enough?

A judge has block Trump's insurance requirement.  You don't need to have insurance for your interview.
