Hi. Do you have a full source for these instructions to consular offices? My father in law is applying under an IR5, and we anticipate an interview soon. Thanks

Unfortunately thats all I got it's a snippet from tweet, reliable source though, this was shared by Doug Rand he was "Asst Director for Entrepreneurship, Obama Office of Science & Tech Policy" and now runs Boundless Immigration which usually has a bunch of up to date info on all rule changes and issues (They even have a public charge risk assesment)

Just show them what your plans are, how you are going to deal with their Insurance needs and how it will be funded.

My parents are appearing for an interview on November 19th. Both of them have Diabetes and High Cholesterol. Here is what I am planning to do to support their ability to pay for health insurance

1. Purchasing a visitor coverage insurance with full pre-existing conditions coverage and $100K policy benefit

2. Sending a letter to consulate stating that I will take full responsibility to pay for their medical insurance.

3. I am enclosing my income, my savings, my investments as an evidence of my financial viability to pay for their insurance

4. Generating a quote for unsubsidized insurance on Healthcare.gov and show that my current income and savings should be able to cover their insurance expenses

5. Enclosing income and savings of my parents (converted to USD) which can show they have adequate savings to purchase insurance on their own

I would really appreciate your feedback on my approach.

Thanks

I understand you stated getting a quote for UN-subsidized insurance from the marketplace. If possible try to get the quote directly from the insurer rather then using marketplace just so theres no question of a subsidiary being considered. Also I dont know if you realize this but some of what you posted is contradicting... You say you will take full responsibility and will show you can afford to do such but then also say your parents can afford the cost. So which is it? If you are taking full responsibility then whether your parents have the resources are irrelevant. I do get what you are trying to say though. Perhaps re-word it to show your parents have the means to take care of this on their own but if for whatever reason they can not or do not, you are fully prepared and capable of paying for it.

Since the Oregon judge blocked the rule and put a temporary hold on it, what does this mean for immigrant visa interviews occurring this week? My husband's CR1 interview is on Wednesday.

It doesn't even specify insurance as the only solution.

immigrants seeking to enter the country must show the ability to pay for “reasonably foreseeable medical costs.”

how does one measure that?

The rules for how they are going to be measured has not been stated. :( This is part of the class action law suit against Trump, his admin, and the US -- the vague terms of the proclamation. See the law suit below:

yeah it's just really confusing because of all the notices sent out about needing this realistically now all that is blocked but people having interviews say Monday may not know the difference. Hopefully the nvc or consulates send out notice for this block to clients.

From what I've read this happened quickly because it's a temporary restraining order while merits of case are reviewed I guess if the next review of case is found to have merit a proper injunction may be placed on it, but right now it's just a 28 day restraining order.

Injunction approved - good. That was cutting it a little close.

Now there’s a chance for a sanity check and some extra time to do this the right way.

unfortunately just restraining order right now for 28 days but still gives time to get lawsuit further resolved.
