Can you please give some links for these legal sites or PM them if links are not allowed.

I have an interview coming up in a month and looking to figure out solutions to this new hurdle.

Thank you!

Nope

I would never suggest that for an immigrant visa nor have we ever done that ourselves in our own cases.

For K1 maybe.  I have no idea what your interview is for (you sign up, we expect a timeline or profile or spell it out before you ask for advice on something) but I do know SS themselves state that an immigrant is not required to have a SS number to purchase domestic health insurance.  My wife did not and was added at marriage just like a new baby is added at birth.

There is a bit of a contradiction in there but good that it covered him, just wanting to make sure people realise that this is very much the exception. Now there are policies available in the US targeted at new immigrants that sort of follow a travel insurance format.

Yup, agreed.  And just to clarify:  the elapsed time between POE and the date that his coverage on my plan began was only 15 days.  We felt comfortable relying on that interim travel plan for the short amount of time we did, as it would have only been needed in the event of an accident or acute illness.

My understanding is:

1.  Public Charge changes will take place as of Oct 15th.  It will include the I-944, and it will apply to K-1s and others applying for Adjustment of Status.

2.  This latest proclamation regarding health care applies to those applying for immigrant visas   (Cr-1, IR-1, etc) as of Nov 4th.

Please feel free to correct me if I am incorrect.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

What will be the requirements for the AoS interview? We already sent the paperwork, is it just showing the proof that I have my insurance now? Or is it that I had my insurance in 30 days after my arrival? Will my dependent military ID enough as proof?

If you carry an insurance card to your interview (where they also review the support affidavit - in 2008 they wanted updated paystubs and tax returns from us at AOS so this is actually neither new nor  a stunner) you are fine.

If you are living here and either have no health insurance (or) your tax returns are showing that you are enjoying subsidized premiums then you might be looking at a problem.

You mentioned you read some legal sites mentioning travel insurance as an option, I would like to read about it aswell as Im researching various options to meet the new law requirment, I’m not asking you to suggest anything.

So what is the problem with this, I’m not asking for specific advice from you about my case...you said you read something on the internet and I’m asking oh where did you read that I’d like to read aswell.

You can see a list of exactly what types of plans satisfy the requirement by reading the actual proclamation here:

I’m coming on a F2B unmarried sons and daughters over 21 category, again this is not relevant to my question I’m simply asking Nitas-Man to point me to where he read something on the internet that he mentioned not asking for advice about my case right now.

So for K-1, I wonder if the 30 days starts at POE?

The proclamation is very vague for example it doesn’t specify how long the insurance needs to be bought for (obviously once admitted to the country as a PR options are much broader so wouldn’t make sense to commit to a long term plan from abroad if not mandatory ) so I would like to read some immigration lawyers takes and opinions on it on various blogs and I can’t find them so far.

I was running google searches.  To find them I have to search them then post them (or) you can google search health insurance for immigrants, health insurance with no social security number, health insurance for K1 visa holders and you’ll be buried in information about it.

Happy hunting

It IS relevant, because as evidenced by the proclamation, the stipulations are different based on visa type.  That's why I asked.  Feel free to research options available to your case.

It would be relevant if I asked you or anyone else about my personal visa case but I didn’t I simply asked someone else who referenced something on the internet to post a link so I can read it myself but for some reason this is a problem.
