Generally Travel Insurance does not cover those migrating.

No, but in the case of K-1s, which are technically NIVs, it can work.  When my husband came over permanently, a previously purchased 1 year travel plan was still in place.  We got married 5 days later, and his coverage through my employer kicked at the start of the next calendar month, which was 9 days after that.

No expert on NZ Insurance but expect it in general to follow UK practices, wordings and am surprised it would cover migration. I know a UK one would not.

It doesn't cover migration.  It covered all of the trips he took over here that year, including the trip over on the technically non-immigrant K-1 for the interim before the workplace plan kicked in.

There is a bit of a contradiction in there but good that it covered him, just wanting to make sure people realise that this is very much the exception. Now there are policies available in the US targeted at new immigrants that sort of follow a travel insurance format.

I agree! There has to be another way

I haven't seen anything that would indicate K-1s are affected by this proclamation.  It specifically says "immigrant visas".  Health care becomes a factor for K-1 holders at adjustment of Status.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

What will be the requirements for the AoS interview? We already sent the paperwork, is it just showing the proof that I have my insurance now? Or is it that I had my insurance in 30 days after my arrival? Will my dependent military ID enough as proof?

Adjustment of Status applicants will be required to complete an I-944 (part of which I have attached).  It addresses health care as well as public benefits.....Tricare is sufficient coverage...

This is THE big problem I see right now ... no one knows.   I agree with the change in policy as announced but what a last minute whammy for those whose interviews are already scheduled and are set for after Nov 4. My heart goes out to you all. ...

This is supposed to be sent in the AoS package after 4th November. Does that mean I will have to take it with me to the interview once I have the date for it? Have to look at it as if this needs to be sign by sponsor, it might be problem as my husband has just deployed 😔

To my knowledge, the I-944 requirement applies only to AOS cases submitted after Oct 14th.

Thank you for your reply! Hopefully it will be that way so it won't apply to us. Might take it with me just in case though, just to be prepared.
