I haven't read this whole thread, so I don't know what has been said already.

This wouldn't have changed my situation, as my husband had Tricare so I was eligible for that.

However, one thing that springs to mind is all those returning families. Those US citizens who have been living abroad and now want to move with their family to the US. Some have assets, but others rely on a US-based joint sponsor if they want to avoid the USC spouse having to return before the rest of the family. Some of them might buy individual plans upon arrival (but how do you prove you're gonna do that?), whilst others rely on finding employment quickly. It's not yet clear what evidence they're going to require, so hard to make definitive statements. (Though my guess is that whatever the policy ends up being, it will be more heavily applied in some embassies than others.)
But I definitely don't like making it harder for nuclear families.
Moving my family to the UK is pretty much not an option for me, which I hate and disagree with. I don't want the US to go in a similar direction. (Meanwhile, the UK gets around the healthcare bit by requiring upfront payments.)

Anyone have any advice to this? I’m married and working remotely in japan for a US company and I still can’t figure out how to prove we will get insurance when we arrive to the US once her visa is approved ? I don’t qualify for US insurance as I’ve missed the enrollment period because I didn’t need it. A qualifying even for my companies insurance was a visa approval. What documentation should we provide to prove we will obtain insurance ? I’m at the national visa center level and an trying to figure out what I should submit to make sure the process goes without issue.

You can show the CO your thick saving bank account.

Or are you really expecting the interview will go like this

CO:  " Hey the law requires you to be insured within 30 days upon your arrival, can you do it?"

Interviewee " Yes sir you can trust me".

Passed.

Right but what number would be passable? I can easily pass 125% of poverty level tests but I don’t know what exactly what I should plan for in terms of what should be visible ? I would 100% be getting insurance because we would qualify for it, but the trick is what can I do to ensure they don’t come back in 45 days and ask for proof of getting insurance and I’m pushed back another 2-3 months ?

If my understanding of this is correct, that whole mega thread about how to get cheap insurance for your parents by gaming the subsidies on ACA might need a rewrite?

I’m pretty sure that gaming the ACA is exactly what led up to this proclamation.

I have not read through all the pages of this thread so apologize if this has already been asked. What proof is the community suggesting the beneficiary carry for this?

A health insurance card.

For a K1 short term/travel with evidence of eligibility for enrollment in petitioners plan at marriage. For a spouse employer plan or exchange, without subsidized premiums.

If you are a petitioner without insurance or milking taxpayers to pay your premiums for yourself then you need to get yourself together (demonstrate you can be responsible for yourself) first then you can petition for someone else.

For a parent, brother, sister - proof that the parent etc can afford to pay their own unsubsidized premiums by themselves.

That help?

I don't think anyone can confidently answer that question yet......although insurance carriers generally issue cards once a person has been added.

To be fair, I've been a little concerned about insurance through the process and I think I was going to probably purchase by own even though I'm a completely healthy person. I work in healthcare so I know how a person can have an appendix burst from one day to the next and require surgery

However, I do think this is gonna separate a lot of low income families, and it makes no sense to me considering a lot of US born citizens are uninsured themselves due to the broken healthcare system in America. Thinking that barring LEGAL immigrants is gonna somehow solve those issues, instead of actual restructuring the healthcare system is ridiculous, and won't solve any of the high costs of Healthcare in America.

Until I see straightforward guidelines as to how this is gonna be implemented, what I see is just another attempt to make things messy and difficult for legal immigration. Quite the dirty thing to do imho

So do I really well, exact thing happened to my wife about 2 months after she got here and we married. Thankfully I added her to my insurance the day we got married. The bill was over 60,000 dollars. I'll post a link to it, I think it should be referenced here.

Found it. This should explain why it is a concern..... and this is a small, basic surgery.

The cards may take a week to 10 days to arrive, but as soon as I added my wife she was in the system and eligible. Next day after adding her I had a doctors appointment and she was already in the system attached to my insurance card number as a beneficiary. So if you already have your Insurance card, your good. You can also print the proof you added her as soon as you do it online. If you do it thru HR I am sure they can email you proof she was added also.

I am relative new to this forum. I just heard about this health insurance law. Can anyone tell me how to buy health insurance for my mom who is not yet in US? What are the requirements ?Guidance needed please

Is this just to cover her until she gets a job?
