Yes but my interview is one month away and now there is a new law with a new requirement and its not clear what the requirment is?

Where do I go to buy insurance and which insurance qualifies...to get insurance trough an employer whic is the plan I need to get a green card first and enter the country and I cant do that without getting this new requirement done.

Get added to your spouses, or purchase seperate insurance prior to departure eg travel, until such time you get your green card and switch to employer etc..

It is unusual for an Employer to provide Health Insurance from Day 1, what was your plan before all this came up and what has changed?

You can purchase all types of medical cover when booking your flight... depends on how well you want to be covered... I’d recommend basic health with emergency care ambulance added... unless you plan on going the gp a lot.. choice is yours

you can’t work until gc arrives..so something like holiday coverage or similar should cover you. so take it out for a few months which gives you time to get on an employment policy

Most Travel Insurance works on the basis that you are coming back, so you need to look for New Immigrant Insurance, pretty crappy as far as cover comes in but seemingly qualifies. I do not know what field you are but alos check to see hpw long you can expect as a new employee before you get cover. 90 days is not abnormal.

Unlikely any of those would cover new immigrants, they are focused on Tourists.

Travel insurance for 2 months till a job kicks in.

What has changed is there is a new law that has a very serious effect on my interview process and has a new requirment which if not met could result in visa denial, yet there are no clear guidelines how to forfill this new requirement...it is very stresfull...every other requirment is very clearly presented on the NVC website for example how to complete the addafit of support yet this is some grey area that nobody really knows what is needed so will have to scramble last minute to figure this out.

Quick question, I read this will only affect issuing the immigrant visa. My wife was just issued the CR-1, but its possible she may not enter before the effective date of November 4th for the new rule. Is the CBP going to try to retroactively apply this rule to those without the green card stamp? It is my impression that this applies to people who have not had the visa issued... Thanks in advance.

True, maybe poor example from myself... but point is, he can’t work until gc... so is effectively low risk unless he has a prexisting condition...and therefore just needs a few months coverage until employer insurance kicks in

I will be entering the us as a permanent resident if my interview is successful so will likley be able to work almost immediatly, the success of my interview  depends on complying with this new law that is the issue.

My understanding is that it does not affect current visa holders.

Most but not by all future spouses are likely to be younger, healthier, however like anything else not all.  Depends where you are but you can ussually get married pretty quickly so should not be that long to wait.

Thank you! I read that too. I'm just worried CBP may overstep and try to enforce this new rule. I'm going to try to get my wife to the states before the rule goes into effect. I'm waiting on my new baby's passport before we make the move for good. But with this rule, it's better safe than sorry to enter before November 4th.

I wonder how the thirty days will work with K-1. We can't add them to our insurance at work until we are married, right ?

My husband couldn’t put me on his insurance until we were married. I came here on a k1 visa
