You're wasting your time. These people have long passed reasonableness. Something else has consumed them.

Oh, please!!!    Requiring new immigrants to be responsible for their own medical care/insurance is not unreasonable....logic has consumed us......

For us, like you stated, K1 made sense as his working faster did not matter but being here to see his child did. Plus I can go back to work and he stays home with her.

However, I don’t know that I’m surprised by people not understanding how healthcare here works.

I think one needs to live the healthcare mess here to understand how awful it can be without coverage.

Im 100 percent positive that those who get here not having coverage and experience a medical issue will have the “light bulb” go off after sticker shock.

The Deductibles are nothing compared to seeing a big bill from the ER with no coverage.

Many countries have free health care or our not mandated maybe like us US citizens?

I can’t think of any other logical reason anyone would take the chance of not having coverage here.

For me it was common sense to get my soon to be husband coverage.

I have to say that I am baffled why some think this is wrong in any way.
It’s the responsible thing to do at least here in the U.S.

I am missing something here 🤷‍♀️

I have been to 30 odd countries and the UK is the only one that has the NHS type free cover. If there is another one I do not know where it is.

I don't think they're saying that at all... they are wrong though. Legal immigrants pay as much tax as an American citizen, why should you put money into taxation and follow the laws of the land and not get something as basic as healthcare in a time of need? We're all humans.

To some people legal and illegal immigrants are the same thing. Probably not people in a Visa forum, though I am sure some are here to just stir the pot.

I am not sure, I can sort of understand if you came from the UK and paid zero attention, but even then people know to buy travel insurance, it is advertised everywhere, and the biggest element of travel insurance is medical cover.

I think, and I am not including everybody, many who want to bring over Parents are working on the basis that they have nothing or nothing that can be traced and at least here you will get emergency treatment for free.

Hi everyone, I received my IR-1 visa recently (already got my passport back with the visa) and planning to move in January or February of 2020 before its expiration.

Do I have to do anything at this point? Will the immigration officer at the point of entry ask me for proof of insurance?

You're saying they can only get certain plans but not others. You're supporting their exclusion from some of the commonest plans we have access to. What's next -- require them to wear a gold star?

The most common plans are Employer Plans, and that is not excluded, they can buy through the Exchange, they can get cover through Medicare, what is left?

Not being a smart xss here but what plan can my fiancé not get that USC’S can?
If you’re referring to Medicaid, no one can get that unless your under 100 percent poverty anyway.
Also, we have to be above 100 percent of poverty to even get our loved ones approved. Well.. 125 percent or even more.
This would be a moot point as there is no way any of us would qualify for Medicaid if approved a visa as it is now.
I really would like to know what plan he is not eligible for being an immigrant?

Not everyone qualifies for every type of plan.........Even USCs are excluded from some plans....
