That is true, however here at VJ there are two separate AOS forums, due to subtle, distinct differences in the types of forms and procedures used in the two groups. Those groups being:

AOS from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/7-adjustment-of-status-green-card-from-k1-and-k3-family-based-visas/

AOS from Work, Student, and Tourist (WST) Visas Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/130-adjustment-of-status-from-work-student-amp-tourist-visas/

Additionally, each of those similar, but different forums have their own separate AOS Case Filing and Progress Forums. Mixing of the two groups can result in confusing discussions, due to the subtle differences associated with each group's processing.

Good luck on your immigration journey and Happy Holidays!! 🎄🎁

So, the case I’m dealing with doesn’t belong to any of those 2 categories, but I guess it’s closer to family based category. We are adjusting status base on US citizenship of parents for a child over 21. I can’t find any forums for such category. Can somebody suggest such forum?

Is there a different tracking forum for IR1/CR1 Family based Visas?

Sure, all you have to do is let your fingers do the walking and venture out into the mass of forums here at VJ, a great Do-it-Yourself (DIY) site. There is a LOT of great info here (some dated - need a job updating and trying to keep up with USCIS? -- There is a even a forum for Site Suggestions)

Here is the IR-1/CR-1 Spouse Visa Process and Procedures Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/110-ir-1-cr-1-spouse-visa-process-amp-procedures/

Here is the IR-1/CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress Forum: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/134-ir-1-cr-1-spouse-visa-case-filing-and-progress-reports/

Good luck on your immigration journey and Happy Holidays !! 🎁

Generally, the key in these types of cases, is what type of visa did the parents initially use to get here?

Perhaps the Bringing Family Member of US Citizens to America Forum is applicable: https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/111-bringing-family-members-of-us-citizens-to-america/ ?

Thank you! Yes, a lot of good info, but nothing really relevant or up to date. From my perspective, case is not much different than k1, k3. Yes, green card is immediately available upon approval of i485. Same paperwork, same steps: filing, biometrics, work permit, rfe(maybe), interview(maybe), done - green card.

I-485, part 2, 1a is a classification of family based category. It Is the same and treated same way.

I am sorry you cannot find much help here! I know this forum is for people who are adjusting status from a K1 and who filed in  October or close enough. Also, AOS interviews are not being waived, so you will a get a letter for an interview before you can obtain your green card.

Thank you! Yes, a lot of good info, but nothing really relevant or up to date. Like I said in one of the other previous comments regarding relevancy and keeping up to date....Wanna job trying to keep up with USCIS, etc? It's all done with volunteers, like yourself.   From my perspective, case is not much different than k1, k3. Yes, green card is immediately available upon approval of i485. Same paperwork, same steps: filing, biometrics, work permit, rfe(maybe), interview(maybe), done - green card. That is a nice simplistic way to view all of the distinct visa processes. It would be so nice if it was that simple.  There probably wouldn't be any need for immigration lawyers.   However there are different forms used for the processes, and they are not necessarily interchangeable. For example, there have been people adamantly claiming that a Form I-130 is necessary for someone using a K1 visa. They say that they read it somewhere?? (BTW, a Form I-130 is generally not applicable for K1/K3 AOS processes, but it is generally applicable in WST AOS processes.) Filling in the wrong form, or filling in the correct form incorrectly don't tend to be viewed with much compassion at USCIS.

No worry, interview for one person is simple. You can’t mess it up 😁. I actually myself went through i130 and i751 interviews, so I know all the pain. This i485 case is for my good friend, I helped out with paperwork gathering.

Yes, I get it. But all the forms are mailed already. With help of immigration attorney of course. We are actually a November 2019 filler. Case is accepted, check cashed, biometrics are scheduled for Jan 3rd 😁 see, just like you guys

So if you have an attorney and have so much info on your hands  and know so much, what are you trying to accomplish in Visa Journey? The reason Visa Journey started was mainly for people who were filing on their own.

Please be sure, I am done with this somewhat banal discussion, bantering back and forth with you about every little nuance or difference between these processes and forms. I have a few other things to do during these holiday times. Find out for yourself, that's what everybody  else does. These forum topics were present long before I came on the scene a few years ago, and will very likely be here as long as folks get involved in immigration procedings.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

The way you present your case is confusing. You are better off asking your friend to join Visa Journey.

My husband and I were living with his mother until less than two weeks ago and we have now moved into a home of our own. Aliens should notify USCIS within 10 days of moving by filing an AR-11 and sponsors whose I-864 conditions are still in effect (i.e. my husband) should file an I-865 within 30 days of moving. I did my AR-11 online and included my pending AOS, EAD and AP receipt numbers. We sent the I-865 via the post as there is no option to complete it online. I was told by one VJ member, though, that the I-865 doesn’t need to be sent until the alien has received their green card, which I haven’t yet (interview has been scheduled). I figured it was better to send through something they might just throw away rather than risk breaking the rules by not notifying them correctly. I think at the very least you or your wife (whoever is the alien) should file the AR-11. Search “USCIS Change of Address”.
