Yes that's it in a nutshell!

I believe the NBC also does a background check after biometrics and performs adjudication activities for  I-485, et. al.  I don't believe they are just a 'pass through' like the NVC.

'Pass through' was my term in this conversation.  Even NVC staff referred to themselves this way.  The NBC is more involved than the NVC ever was.

Well, your fingerprinting is completed when you go to the ASC center. It is hard to know what happens at NBC as we do not work there, but I suspect one of their main functions is to ensure your file is shipped to your field office.

Also your EAD/AP is processed there.

Your fingerprints are collected at your friendly neighborhood ASC because beneficiaries are all over the country.  That doesn't mean the ASC does anything with the fingerprints specifically.  Maybe yes, maybe no.

I found this link a while back which demonstrates the NBC does conduct background/security checks among other things.  They clearly do this with the fingerprints provided by the beneficiary.

I honestly do not understand the deal with fingerprinting. Petitioner and beneficiary also get a background check abroad before getting a K1 approved as well. It is an extensive one because the FBI is involved and it happens before you get NOA2. I guess we will just move with the flow and hope for a smooth process. You get fingerprinted at your fiancé interview as well. Every single step in immigration requires fingerprints.

I am with you on that.  I don't get all the fingerprinting either.  Every freaking step of the way.

Another personal peeve of mine was all the duplication between the I-129f and I-485 forms.  Same government agency, many of the same questions and for the same beneficiary.  As an IT person it drives me batty.  As you say, all we can do is just move with the flow.

When I went to my fingerprinting appointment, I directly asked USCIS in their office why they demand fingerprinting on every step. They said they have to do it to make sure it was really the same person who filed the application because, as they said, today it's very easy to steal someone's private info and identity. The other thing I do not understand is why they ask for photos of beneficiary altogether with other papers in the case, get them, and then take additional photos of the beneficiary at the fingerprint appointment.

I suppose that is logical. They are comparing our fingerprints at each stage to make sure they remain the same (in addition to their background checks). And they can see how our appearance changes over this process too with the photos each time.

Between NOA1 and biometric appointment is about 1 month. Highly unlikely sombedy's apperance would have changed so much in a month.

Ok, I'll buy that.  It does make sense.

Mine took exactly a month to change to "ready to schedule". From my own observations of other poeple's timelines, it usually takes 25-30 days for it to change to "ready to schedule" after the biometrics. And two days after that mine changed to " interview was scheduled". I got the interview notice in the mail 5 days later which was last monday.

My status was just changed to "ready to schedule..." today... excited to hear news on the next step!
