Small update on my EAD combo card renewal! I received a letter stating that they will be reusing my biometrics, which is awesome and I hope everything gets processed quickly especially since I have a IOE case number. While my interview still shows up as cancelled... x.x

Interviewed this Monday, Dec 21st.

Field Office: Atlanta (2nd Floor)

ONLINE STATUS:

I-485: Card is being Produced (12/22)

     I-130: Petition for Spouse -- Approved (12/23)

     I-485: Adjust Status/Residence -- Approved (12/23)

Interview Experience

Our appointment was scheduled for 9:05AM, we arrived about 8:35 and went through quick airport style check-in. We then walked upstairs > checked into Reception > Got Our Number and waited. The officer called us in at about 9:30. It was a short interview, he went through the questions on the application, talked to my husband (USC) 80% more than me. Asked how we met. First date. Our last 2 addresses. Asked my husband about my 1st child (did not ask for adoption/court papers though). Went through the "YES/NO" on the I-485 and that honestly took the most time. We left at 10:30 so it actually took a whole hour! Could have been 20mins if the IO did not need to: check off the originals, change our address (USCIS Online only registered husband--USPS had us both though), scan our Social Security Cards and receive some additional evidence (3 insurance documents) & pictures (5 -10)  from me. I dropped a folder, spilling mail everywhere, and apologized saying "I'm so sorry.. It's just crazy how much paper you accumulate when you're married." He softened and then remarked how organized and light our folder was compared to many others lol. He had an application that day that was 4inches thick! He said. So that was a light moment for all of us. Finally, the IO told us how to apply for the i-751 later and ushered us out the door.  He never actually said the words "You are Approved," but we gathered that from telling us about the i751 and giving some filing tips.

Overall a great experience! The officer was conversational but serious. He was also kindly patient considering that my husband is dyslexic and was VERY VERY NERVOUS. ❤️Still, Hubby did well! 🥰 He just got the addresses mixed up (zip codes mostly), but rather a partner who cares too much than not enough. We went to Marlow's Tavern afterward and enjoyed a nice city walk together before going home.

Spoiler

TIP: If your marriage is real DO NOT FREAK OUT! Bring what they ask for, have the originals in one folder, and help the document exchange go as smoothly as possible. Only answer what you are asked and briefly talking to each other is OK. You are a couple for goodness sakes. I think the IO liked that we talked about shared events together and were our normal selves--but brief and respectful.

If anyone has specific questions or curiosity-- I have plenty of time to answer them.

My wife just got an email from USCIS yesterday (Dec. 24, 2020) stating that there was an update in her case. I think we both assumed it referred to her application for renewal of her AP/EAD combo card, since it's 15 months since she sent in her original AOS application, and her first year of AP/EAD is already almost at an end.

But lo and behold, the update was for the original i485 application. An interview date has been scheduled! We don't know what it is yet, but we should get something in the mail soon. We were taken by surprise to be honest. Our field office (San Francisco) is supposedly notoriously slow, and with the pandemic, we were honestly expecting that it might be 24 months before we saw an interview date. I guess not.

My wife and I will attend the interview together, correct?

Congrats!!

Yes you have to attend the interview together.

Hopefully the holiday mail doesn’t slow down your interview letter. Usually the interview is about 6 weeks or so after the date the interview scheduled. Our interview was schedule like 5 weeks later. Be on the look out for the letter.

Start getting you documents ready to bring to the interview and Congrats again!

Following up on my last update: Today my i-485 status changed back to "Case is ready to be scheduled for interview" while in my e-mail notification it showed as "Your Case Status: Testing and Interview" which was a bit interesting to me, but I'm glad it's moving again! Hopefully I'll receive a letter soon via mail.

Omg omg, I finally get some REAL news to share. It's quite exciting but also a bit scary tbh. Today I got the notification that my interview was scheduled and I should get all the details via mail in the following days. My renewal for my EAD combo card was also produced today, so I should be getting that one in the mail too. Sooooo nice to see some movement at the Dallas office! I'll keep you posted. I guess it's time to collect all needed documents for the interview. Wishing ya'll good luck and fingers crossed, hopefully you'll be next. ❤️

That’s great! How long did it take you to get a notice for your combo renewal? Ours arrived 12/2 but still no receipt and they said we are still in normal processing

Those are awesome news, congrats to you too! ❤️ Seems like our EAD renewals are close as in timelines. I do have to point out that my AP status hasn't changed yet either but I'm sure it will switch once I receive the card. That's how it went for me last time. 😂
