Wow. Even though it took 139 days to finally be sent to NVC, was the whole journey from start to finish still in the range of 12-13 months?

Nope, not even close. We could finally  make them send the approved petition to NVC by making multiple congressional inquiries. WE are at the NVC stage still, just submitted all forms and documents. We could ask for an expedite claiming USCIS clerical error, but we really don't wanna jinx it at this point.

From what I have seen in countless comments on VJ, is that it takes roughly 8 weeks from the day the I130 is submitted for the USCIS to send the package to NVC. And then the NVC takes over and they are the ones to approve the I-130.

I think this is where you are getting confused. NVC does not approve petitions. USCIS approved the petition (takes around 8-12 months depending on the service center). THEN after USCIS approves the petition, the case is sent to NVC. At NVC, financial documents (affidavit of support, tax transcripts, etc) and civil documents for the beneficiary (police report, birth certificate etc) are uploaded to CEAC. NVC reviews THOSE documents, and once they are deemed documentarily qualified, the case is sent to the embassy. But no, USCIS does not forward your case to NVC for I130 approval. It’s sent to NVC after USCIS approves it. USCIS is not going to send your petition to NVC until it is approved, which will take a long time. Your benefits being “accepted” at USCIS just means that they got your petition. Once it’s been approved it will say “your I130 has been APPROVED” and you will receive a letter in the mail as well as an email with your approval notice. For those at Potomac, it could be just a few short months for approval, for Texas 8-10+ months, and for Nebraska 12+ months. The process these days in total takes around a year and a half or more, the normal timeline is no longer the 12-13 months it once was. You really should research more on the process to avoid confusing yourself in the future again

I had read this a couple months back when you responded and realized I never sent the quoted response. Thanks for taking the time to explain that.  I guess my next question is then, how long does it take for USCIS to approve? You mentioned it will take a long time, but is that 8, 10 months?  I still have not seen one update at all since last August.

I see. It does seem as though it can be around 18 months to finally have the process finished?

Hi,  depends on the processing center I suppose. Nebraska has a particularly bad rep. Ours got approved from Texas  in around 6 months, but then it got stuck between USCIS and NVC and only resurfaced at NVC around October 2nd, we did not request any expedite and now we are three weeks away from my interview at the Consulate. so, let's see from October 5th 2018 to February 2020, it makes a few weeks short of 15 months in our case. Ankara is not the  busiest embassy, either, so consider  that factor  while making your estimations. Best luck!

Gotcha! Well, in worst case scenario if ours takes 15 months, it would take til next February. I think I could wait another year lol. Thanks for your response!! I hope yours goes through smoothly from here on out!

Awesome thanks! Well mine went to Texas, (95% sure lol), so hopefully mine is approved in next couple of months and there isn't too much lag time before NVC receiving the case!  Thank you
