@nicky23  You have 90 days, after entry into the U.S., to get married to your partner. Then afterwards, you can file for your Adjustment of Status.

First stop is the social security office for your SS card. That can be done the day you land or the next day or at least the first week. Everyone seems to wait for this, and it ends up causing problems down the line. At least 2-3 times a week someone posts about their social security card problem.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

Not waiting for your DHS record to be updated (which is not the same as being able to generate your I94) can also cause problems.

If you have no entry record, SSA cannot submit your application. When SSA cannot submit your application they may take it and not tell you that they have not submitted it yet but promise to keep checking for your entry record. The problem with that is the agent helping you has many of the same cases and some times yours can sit in their pile and not get worked on for weeks and weeks. (I have an SSA staff member that i talk with and she tells me that staff are only allocated 8 hours per week to work on ALL cases).

That's where the recommendation to wait 14 business days comes from. So DHS has time to update your record. And so your application doesnt end up in a pile collecting dust.

Apply for your SS card as soon as you can, it will be much easier in the long run.  Get married within 90 days. And then apply for AOS as soon as you can.

The timeline is a bit dated, but the sequence of events noted in the K 1 Flowchart are still valid:

https://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow/

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

we filed for social security card within 2 days and received it within 10. of course as with anything, it may vary depending on your local office, but it is highly recommended to get that first, then get married asap and file the AoS before the 90 days just to avoid any potential problems

RoC sent 10/30/21

NOA 11/16/21

Check Cashed 11/18/21

Biometrics Waived 01/19/2022
