Social Security Denied?

We originally applied for a SS Number 5 weeks ago and received nothing back until now, we received a paper from our local social security saying my wife was not eligible for a social security number at this time, we applied on maybe about the 4th day of her K-1 visa as soon as she came to the states. Any reason on the denial? I went to the social security office and they told me immigration could not verify the information given, we gave copies of passport, I-94; all the requirements. Would it be worth it to apply again now that we are legally married?

Sounds like it went through manual verification. What does the SAVE CaseCheck show? https://www.uscis.gov/save/casecheck

If there are at least 14 days of legal status remaining, you can still apply. That said, getting one in the married name can be difficult...the maiden name may be simpler.

You can try applying again assuming she has more than 2 weeks left on her I94. Make sure the name she applies in matches on both the I94 and her passport.  If a SSA clerk again says no, ask for a supervisor.

If none of the above works, then you have to wait until she has the EAD to apply again. She'll get it, eventually.

She did not go through a name change as we want to have a ceremonial wedding later, we just had a civil one; no rings no name change. I will check the site thank you.

Will the receipt for the EAD suffice? As in we have sent the packet along with the AOS; still waiting to hear back when they receive everything.

Just checked the case check; great link btw.. it says case returned to agency.

That means they completed verification and returned the response to the SSA. It doesn't indicate the actual response they received, but unless there was a mistake, it should have come back positively.

That’s the thing, I went for a replacement card about a week ago asked about her case but said they could not verify the information/case or there is a delay; I'm hoping it goes through.

Yes, my now wife applied for hers 18 hours after landing at LAX, and she was in the Save system, and had her card in 2 weeks.

Yep. My husband got his!

 

OP, By other means, if it fail to process within under the 2 weeks part and you're already helping to file out the AOS or whoever is, while filing for EAD it does have the option of getting a SSN, which will likely to be easier to get than waiting through and driving to SSA Offices.
